Have a Nice Day? what is this and how do i remove it successfully??

okay, so my car came with this little black chip plugged into a receptacle under my dash (to the right of the OBD2 port) and if it's not plugged in, the car doesn't start. The dealer also provided me with a "backup" and advised me that if i ever lost them, i wouldn't be able to drive my car.

Now, these things do nothing but annoy me since my foot sometimes hits it when i'm getting in (it hangs down a little bit).

Does anybody recognize this and know how to remove it and all associated wiring/blackboxes from my car? Anybody that ever bought a car from Southern States Imports in Raleigh, NC will recognize this little demon:

its a way to disable your car, it cuts off the ignition

i beleive you can bypass it by just connecting the wires together

on the back of the packaging, it says "virtually impossible to defeat" and you're telling me that defeating it is no harder than any traditional "hotwiring" endeavor? geez i hope so. i'm gonna try it out next time i've got the dash apart.

If the dealer put it in, I'd have the dealer take it out.

it's nothing more then a piece that completes a circuit

if you want to get rid of it completely, then yes, just rewire it under your dash. it probably interrupts the ignition wire and some other stuff.....

Did they charge you for that?

its not factory.

Did you buy your car new? or used? Maybe you can repostition it so it doesnt hit your foot, the more anti theft devices the better, WRX's are getting stolen left and right in my area.

Your suppose to take that piece with you when you park the car.

i bought it new, they charged me $400 (the sticker said "Security System" and i thought I was getting the subaru security system), and it's something my dealer puts on ALL their cars.

note: i don't live near the dealer and have no desire to deal with them to get them to remove it, etc... i just want to take it off myself. so, I should just be able to connect whatever wires it splits?

Just follow the harness and see where it interrupts the stock wiring. Should be under the dash hopefully near the ignition switch harness. You will need to remove that and splice the stock wires back together. Pull down your lower dash and follow it. Pull back the loom and look at the wires, it shouldn't be that difficult as someone else stated it completes a circuit.
Good Luck
Don't know if I helped anymore than a word of encouragement : p
Shawn

P.S. I hate it when dealers pre-install crap, aftermarket crap !
We install block heaters on all of ours ( minus the STi)
But thats a necesstiy out here

i had one of them in my first car ...youll need an ohm meter to figure out wich wires in the plug the "chip" connects then just connect those wires together and TAA DAA thats that

Man, that's crap. I hope you didn't pay for it.

Once a dealer seriously tried to charge me $1200 for a "protection package" that included undercoating, special wax, pinstripes, etc.... It was on all their cars. I told them they'd have to eat the cost, or I'd walk. The guy countered by saying I could have it for invoice: $75. I *RAN* out of that place.

well the cost on the sticker was the same as the cost of the option I *thought* i was getting - the subaru security system.

In any case, as I have already mentioned, I have 0 desire to deal with that dealership again for anything so i'm just looking for specific tips on removing this piece. Thanks for stopping by.
