Cool honda stolen, WRX gained? and some Q's

hi everyone, it's my first time on this forum but expect me to visit very often from now on

I got my honda stolen 2 days ago, yup 2 days.
If nobody finds my lil' honda in 30 days then..well..time for a new car.

I've always been a fan of imprezas and admire them greatly in my options and options2 magazines, and while flipping through my old magazines i came to the decision that my next car will be a 2.5RS...

i went online and started searching for info, and i came across this site...and while at this site i found out about the US WRX...and visited imprezawrx.co, all i can say is im as excited and as interested as all of you guys are...to top it all off the release date of the US model...3/14/01...is MY BIRTHDAY!! ...what a great gift to give to myself eh?

so i milked this site and imprezawrx for all the info i can find..but i still have a couple of questions:

what are the chances of me getting one? i suspect alot of preorders and a waiting list and whatnot...but what are my real chances provided that i have the money ready?

dealer markup? they did this with the is300...expect them to do it with wrx..how much will it be approximately?

and finally an opinion question...
if its not possible to get a WRX ....i would really need a car to get to school/work..etc...should i just get a RS??
or should i try my hardest holding off..riding the bus..bumming rides...until one is availiable?

thanks for the input.

Hey, happy to hear that your Honda got jacked - uh, I mean, sorry to hear about your loss. Welcome to the club, & getting a new Impreza depends on your dealer... many dealers are taking orders for MSRP while some even want thousands of dollars over MSRP. I was lucky & ordered one for $400 over invoice, so shop around.

However, you did say you wanted a 2.5RS, & demand for those, compared to the WRX, should be much less, so you should be able to get a good deal on those. Lots of people (myself included) are selling their current generation 2.5RS's so they can get into a WRX, so you should be able to get a great deal on the older cars.

How did you find out how much invoice is? I asked a subaru manager and they didn't even know yet. Or did you just tell them 400 over invoice and they agreed?

No, nobody knows the invoice price yet. I just asked them how much they wanted, and they offered $400 over invoice. Gonna sign the papers soon, I guess.

What are you expecting invoice to be? How many other people at your dealership put a preorder for the WRX sedan?

My dealer (North Park Subaru in San Antonio Texas) had the price by 1/11. Since I'm looking at my signed purchase order, I can tell you the price, with shipping and "advertising fee" is $24,670 - that's for a 5sp/sedan. I'm paying MSRP - it wasn't real negotible, but then again, I am the first person in San Antonio to have an order in!!! Whoohoo!

BTW, this is my first posting - current ride is a '95 GTI VR6, new ride is a '02 WRX (as of March 14th!)

Question

Where did you find that the release date was 3/14/01? I remember a rumour that it was 3/20 a while back but hadn't heard of a definate release date yet? Is it really 3/14?

WRXDude, does that price include tax, license and docs? That's less than $700 over MSRP.

Was it an Si? My cousin has an Si, and its been stolen Twice!

Anyway... I say wait til march if possible, there will still be a couple current models availible as well as used ones, and you can easily get a good deal on them... PLUS, you can also choose between the WRX or the 2002 RS (yes, there still will be an RS).

So far, Ive seen 0 people pay over MSRP, and only a couple of dealers ask over MSRP... most people are getting MSRP or 500-1000 less, and a couple are dealing on un-anounced invoice prices...
Although, some of the lists might be long at certain dealers, may take awhile to get one...
