Talking Coming to Utah for Christmas

My wife and I are gonna drive up to see her parents for Christmas. We're trying to decide whether to take my WRX or her Legacy. I lived in Provo for a little while and had one mishap on the ice/snow that cost me $450 after I met a curb (not in my Rex). I don't wanna buy a set of snow tires for my 17's and I can't put the stock wheels back on because of my Stoptechs.

Should I just not consider driving up there from Texas on Summer tires and take the Legacy? Her car is just not as fun to drive, but a little softer riding (no coil-overs) and we're gonna go about 65-70 all the way, so speed isn't really important.

What are those of you with Stoptech's and 17's doing for winter?

I dunno I wouldn't chance it for how crappy most of the drivers are up here in the snow(EVEN THOUGH THEY LIVE IN IT) play it safe take the legacy. It will take you longer to get here but you will probably save a ticket at the same time.

Just my .02 but I wouldn't mind seeing your car if you come up hehe.

Yeah- I think we're gonna have to take the Legacy. I already have too many miles on the WRX anyway.

Well, we've had so little precipitation in the past year or so, its ridiculous. It hasnt rained for more than 20 minutes since I can remember. Last year, I think I had to drive in an inch or two of snow on the way to work maybe twice... of course, theres no telling what this year will bring....

If you're going to be in the valley the whole time, snow shouldn't be much of a concern. With the exception of a few days every year, the roads down here aren't snowed in. If your gonna have some fun in the mountains however, that's a different story

Yeah, I'm just wary of being caught in a snow/ice storm like I was when I lived in Provo and met a curb at all of 5mph, which cost a lot more than I wanted to pay. We'll probably end up moving back to that area in a couple of years (BYU lawschool), so I guess I'll get a bonafide chance to wreck my car in a spectacular fashion then.
