Question carlsen subaru

hi guys, i'm new to this group. don't have an impreza yet but i'm working on it. here's a few things that's been on my mind lately..

-does $350 + invoice sound like a fair price for 2000 Impreza RS? this is quote from Zeke at Carlsen Subaru Redwood City. Livermore asked for 3% over invoice (more than $500). how far down did you guys manage to haggle? just curious

-2D or 4D? i'm leaning towards 4 door only because, personally, i think the low spoiler looks better than the 2D one, plus it doesn't block your rearview as much. wonder why they couldn't slap the low spoiler on the 2D?

-also looking at 2000 VW Golf 1.8T or 2000 Si. i'm favoring RS, but any thoughts on why you ultimately chose the RS? what was the deciding factor?

thanks -g

Cool

Go to (no flames please)Stevens Creek and see
Mike, a manager (the one with the cobra mustank), and tell him Randy sent you...If he can't beat any price you have...
well at least you tried.

Cool

Did you drive all those cars??? Did you go to their "boards"??? It should be obvious,
SUBARU...although the turbo version should be out in six months and then you could buy several of the peoples cars on the I board.

I actually got my car from Zeke at Carlsen as well, even though I used greenlight.com to do the actual purchase. I ended up paying $50 under invoice after the $250 cash back offer from greenlight. All in all, for a walk-in deal, I'd say $350 over invoice sounds fair...

I have to say that this board was definitely a deciding factor in my decision... I was also considering a VW GTI 1.8T. After reading the massive amount of complaints about the entire VW line on their boards, the decision was easy

Thumbs up

I got my 00 RS from Ron Price Motors, but checked out Carlsen and was impressed by their service and their fair approach to pricing.

But I'd second the motion to go on-line and get at least quotes from greenlight.com, carorder.com, etc. I did, and found that carorder.com was willing to sell me the RS for basically $500 UNDER invoice, delivered to my door. I'd have had to wait for 6-8 weeks for delivery though.

Even so, when I started talking price with the Ron Price salesguy, all I had to do was whip out the carorder.com printout (which had all the options and all the taxes, fees, license charges, etc. itemized) and give it to him. All of a sudden, his price dropped under invoice, too.

He never did match the price, but I was willing to pay the eventual $150 difference in order to drive the car off the lot a few days later. I gave Carlsen a courtesy call to give them a chance to match either the carorder.com price or the Ron Price price, but they wouldn't/couldn't do it.

So, I agree with deepbeep, $350 over is a good walk-in price, but if you have the time and inclination to do some research and get some quotes before you negotiate, you can do at least several hundred dollars better.

to add to my earlier comments, after reading BLU IMP's message: my purchase with greenlight took a total of 13 days, from placing the order to taking delivery. It could have taken 11, but I wasn't able to get to the dealer sooner.

Wink

I think I got my RS at the lowest price so far I paid $700 under invoice from CarOrder.com 4 months ago. With an additional $500 check from them because they took more than a month to deliver the car at the time, I paid less than $20,000 out the door. I got premium sound, security, differential protector, floor mat and trunk mat came with the car. Though the car had more options than I care, it's still a good deal

But I just check their site again. They are now selling it at $278 over invoice. It may worth a look if you don't mind the wait

I got my RS from Carlsen Subaru in Redwood City. Great service, but poor parking space. The salesman gave me an extra $250 off my car because of all the mess with the parking.

Cool

The reason we chose the Subaru is because it's "all we'll drive"
