On your "scenic" drive, watch out for the big whoop about 1/2 mile fromthe facility at the end of the road, if you hit it faster than ~50 you'll bottom, then fly, and it's on a corner......

I used to live up Empire grade.....

Haha, wish I could. I'm 3.5 hours away now, I moved back up to the Sierras.

Thanks for the offer, though

I highly, highly suggest taking it really easy up and down at least once before you even think about pushing it; it's a killer road, but there's no runoff in most places, and it's claimed more than it's share of victims, along with the roads that head off of it. Get sideways and there's nowhere to go but a mountain or down

That said, it's beautiful up towards the top. Whenever I had an hour free between classes, I'd be up empire, railing the pavement or playing in the mud

And that mud will eat your rims for lunch, so don't do it on anything besides stockers My rims on my old car looked like the outer 2 inches had been sandblasted clean

aaahhh E.G.... Haven't been there for a LONG time. Still remember that stupid deer jump out on me. Last time we had about 6-7 car flying through that road at night it was a blast!

we took
1 North
right onto Bonny Dune
left onto EG
right onto fulton (felton?) I can never remember that road.
back on hwy9

when you are on EG, left onto ice cream is pretty fun too.

I love to go with you guy, but i recently had a deer kill up in Fortuna (Eureka area). And won't get my car back until this weekend. Don't know if I want to take her out again already..

If you guys really want some crazy road to drive on, you know Pete is putting up a TSD rally right? But I think the grid is full. However, I am sure you could get the route book from him so you guys could go like an hour later or something. Have fun!

*CAUTION*

i was on 17 last weekend and got a ticket. there were A LOT of cops up there...they were doing a crackdown on speeding, in preparation for the wet season coming up. you speed, you get cited...no exceptions, he said. so, speed at your own risk!!!

bastard caught me while i was cruising with a bunch of other cars too....maybe it was the WRB that caught his eye.

not that i will be speeding again anytime soon, but does a V1 really help THAT much? i'm thinking of picking one up. i will be running a search for V1 reviews, but i want to hear from you or others in the regional board.

yes, the v1 does help, especially at night. it saved me 5+ times since in the past 2 months i've had it... then again, i only go 5-10mph over....

If you have metallic tint, it's a little overkill, as you won't get any(or poor) signal from the sides/rear of the car.

I'd love to have a V1, but the whistler (I know, it's actually a top shelf one from a few years back) I've had for ~6 years still keeps me safe; I haven't gotten a ticket, and I'm rarely under the limit. the fact that my wagon is stealth might be part of it, but I think a detector just keeps you more aware of your speed/surroundings. I'm usually aware of a cop long before my detector goes off.

i can only say this. V1 was $400, but it saved me from getting more than 10 tickets in three years and I haven't gotten a single ticket ever since.

it only works when there are other cars infront of you (radar bounce off and you get a reading) or the radar is one all the time. so if you are at night and the only car, there is no use.

I can't compare to any other radar detector because I haven't use any of them before. but I do like this one becuase it tell me where and how close (somewhat).
