Wink Snow. Where's it at?

It's time. I am craving the snow. I'd rather not get stuck like last year but if I do then ah well. I want to know where abouts near Tahoe to go. I mean where are some fun places with open parking lots and no concrete blocks. Any places near Tahoe or 2-3 hrs from Sac. I'd like to take a roadtrip this season and come across some snowy parking lots

I'm just in the mood to have some fun in the snow after seeing peoples pictures.

Its all on the east coast! Ive had the opportunity to do it once this year, maybe when I go to Tahoe in our V70XC this year I might have to drift that a little.

Believe me, I've been looking. Its hard for me to find anything in the south shore right now.

Almost every good lot I've spotted gets plowed the day after a storm.

But, that means the day of a storm is a day of fun

If the snow level comes down far enough, I wouldn't mind doing Mosquito Ridge Rd or Wentworth Springs Rd, although the only place with a large lot is Loon Lake (don't know how often they get snow).

Loon lake should have snow from the first storm all the way till spring. Hell, maybe I'll even swing by on my way back to Tahoe from my parents and let you all know if there is snow there. I don't remember a super huge lot, but some fun could be had.

Loon Lake's lot wasn't all that big but I think it was free of concrete parking lot stops except at the outside edge - no surprises when you get the car sideways.

I just checked out Loon Lake, the only snow is on the side of the road right now. There is a decent sized dirt/granite-rock parking lot that might be a lot of fun once the snow falls.

It took about 1 hour to get there from my parents in Placerville, might be slower with snow on the road.

Okay, we'll have to keep a watch out for the next good snowfall.

Keep us posted Nick. And don't do it with pics showing you having a dirty time (in your car!).

Hehe, I would have had pictures for this round, but I didn't have my digital camera on me

Although, I didn't want to do too many donuts in the gravel rocks. They looked sharp and pointy.

I want to find a good deal on decent mud/fender flaps for front and rear. Once I have these on, I won't worry so much about mud or slush or rock dings on the sides of the car. The Subaru stuff is really expensive, IMO. I wouldn't mind modding the flaps to fit the WRX if I could source them cheaper.

Wink Mud Flaps. El Cheapo!

just goto pepboys or autozone and get some plain black truck mudflaps. They are like $10 per set and very durable.

Awesome! Did you use existing hardware, or jsut a few self-tapping screws? I have the factory rear mud flaps, but that doesn't do me and my 215/45R17 S03s much good from stopping the sides from getting dinged. I need a solution.

well there were already 2 or 3 holes in the wheel well itself so I found screws to suit the holes and then a nut behind each bolt I put in. I know the front had 2 bolts without screws but they seemed to stay in place fine. I took the flaps off about a month a go because the front 2 were on crooked as I used the jack to jack the side of the car up and then the flap turned out being sideways also
