Post Got my RS today!

Well, I made the drive to Asheville today and picked up my 01 RS Sedan (Silverthorn) from Jerry. Options are: Armrest Extension, Security System, and Performance Gauge Pack.

Jerry was great, as was the rest of the staff at Prestige Subaru. If you're anywhere in the vicinity, I'd suggest them very highly. It was the most low-pressure auto sale I'd ever seen. Thanks, guys.

Now if I can just hurry up and relearn this darn manual transmission stuff. 11 years is too long to wait to get my OWN car.

Ross N.

Thumbs up

If any of you are within a drive of that dealership is Ashville, go see `em. My wife and I visited them last September when we evacuated the Carolina coast because of a hurricane. Scott Wilbanks gave us a chance to look around for a little while, then happily answered our questions. In Charleston, the salespeople wouldn`t even field questions about the 2.5RS....if it wasn`t an Outback, they wouldn`t even bother. They`d never have one on the lot, period. Anyhow, after a spirited test drive- we were hooked. I now live in L.A. BUT, I will purchase my WRX from Scott, no question.

Damn I miss the "South"

Very cool, grimlock.

I'm trading in my L on Friday at Jerry's dealer for the red coupe. Did you see it there? I'm going out of my mind waiting to pick it up!

No, the new body style will be out early in 2001 as a 2002 model. While there's no official date announced, local dealers are saying April.

Well, the car is now 3 days old, and has 800 miles on it. Whee! It's driving great. The trip down through the mountains to ATL was awesome, except when I ended up behind the WORLD'S SLOWEST MERCEDES.

Matt, they were pulling a Sedona Red coupe into the showroom right after they pulled mine out of it. I'm guessing that was yours, and yes it looked good.

Ross N.

P.S. Larry, no turbo on this one for a while, but I'll probably be picking up one of your intakes in a couple of months.

Have a Nice Day?

I can't wait to pick it up. Its only 760 miles from my house. Its the only red RS coupe I could find within 800 miles of my house.

I can see myself running around the mountains with it already.

By the way...how far is it from Asheville to Atlanta?

Have a great time with the new car. I'll probably finish the break-in period by the time I get home.

They were refering to the MY02, which debuts in the US in 2001. I believe that the rest of the planet considers it to be the MY01... (I could be wrong there)

It took us from 3 - 3.5 hours to get there going I85 to US25 to I26 to I240 to Tunnel Rd./US70. It took a good bit longer coming back through the mountains.

If you want a nice, twisty drive back through the mountains, take I26 East to NC280 South/West, and go about 15-20 mins to where US178 comes in from the left. 178 has some very nice twisties, and will take you all the way back to I85 if you just stay on it.

Cool

Thanks Ross. I'm looking for some good driving roads in the area. Guess I'll have to get some good maps too.

Matt, I will try to prepare a good "suggestion" for a route by the time you come to pick the car up. Some of the best RS roads in western NC.

Bwahahaha!

Matt, I'm having sooooo much fun driving mine! I've finally gotten almost used to shifting it. That first gear is hella short.

Anyway, one thing to keep in mind is that, if you drive all the way back from North Ga. to Fla. on the interstate, Subaru recommends that you not drive at the same speed for a long time. To be safe, I'd try to vary it across a 10-15mph range on the way back. But that's just me.

I know about the speed thing, but I've got to drive 760 miles home. And its all high speed driving. I'll spend Saturday breaking it in on some local roads in the Asheville area. I'll be ready for my first oil change by next weekend.

Congrats, Grimlock!

Matt, might I suggest that instead of taking the interstate back home, that you instead take highways? You'll have a good chunk more speed changes forced on you not to mention that you can enjoy more Americana.

I'm thinking about that too, but its 760 miles home. I'll take backroads when possible, but when I get to Florida, its 350 miles on the highway. I guess I'll just have to stop a lot.
