Post Shifting an Automatic: what RPM?

If I wanted to shift my automatic manually, (is this called powershifting?) at what RPM would I shift from 1-2-3-D?

Power shifting is with a manual, when you don't lift the gas pedal while pushing the clutch in/out.

I don't think it's a good idea to be shifting your auto manually. Unless you're racing, I don't see the need to manually shift the car (although I do it on occasion). Just out of curiosity, what's your reason for wanting to manually shift your auto?

I would assume hes talking going up/down hills, or using the gears to slow down possibly... am I right?

No, I meant shifting manually. Like for racing. I've done it one time from a standing start and didn't notice any gains. I've read about people doing this when racing with automatics, so I thought I might be doing something wrong.

But while at it, is it bad for the auto tranny to use the gears to slow down? I've done that also...

Basically, I'm just really bored with an auto and like to play around with it.

Your Manual will say what speeds you can use in each gear, and you can do it at any time you want usually within those speed limits, but as for racing... dont do it.

What you need is a Sport-shift car (you know, the auto/manual shifters )

If there was some way to convert my AT to a sport shift...I'd be willing to shell out the $$$ (as long as it's reasonable). Anybody know anything about making it possible?

Before I bought my manual Scooby, I had a supercharged Camaro RS, auto. I had a shift kit installed to make for more positive shifting. When running at the track, I had no difference between manual i.e. 1 2 d od and just leaving it in D Just made me feel like I was doing something when I was doing the shifting. Although redline really creeps up on you fast blowing 9lbs of boost. Especially on a 5500 redline. As far as converting, not worth the money. IMHO But I know what you mean.

As far as what RPM, you'll have to run it at the track varying, depends on your set up, if you have all low end, shift early. IF you have high end, redline the puppy.

Well, if I could drive stick, it wouldn't be worth conveting in my opinion either. But since I can't drive stick (due to a condition I was born with) I'll have to just settle smokin' Honduhs in an auto. *sigh*
