Post Getting a shop manual from Japan..

Hi guys!

I was thinking of getting a shop manual from Japan. My cousin (dad's side) in Japan has a Sti Type-R Ver V and he says he can get me a ver VI shop manual.

First off. How useful would it be? (I'm getting it free but leave this factor out)

Second of all, would it help in terms of finding hop-up parts and turbo mods?

Tim

Probably not tooo useful as the 2.5RS is not in japan (I dont think it is)and it will be in Japanese, and STi parts are hard to get anyway, even if we know about them...it may make good conversation;-)

Yeah, that's about right.

The Japanese shop manuals are much more useful than the American ones. They show you where to put your hands and tools, how to take stuff apart, torque settings for every bloody bolt on the car, etc.

They are also much more compact than the box full of binders we get here. And part numbers are global, I believe.

If you don't mind, I'd like to take a look at them sometime when you get them.

How were you so lucky to score this nifty deal?

Cheers,
Joe

I have Japanese relatives that I keep in touch with throuh email *shhhhhh* !

I can also read Japanese! The Kanji (Chinese characters) are difficult but the rest is relatively easy for me to understand.

Hey Samurai, how about a group buy of some STi goodies? Surely your relatives can arrange something with a local STi store!

Well,

I ask about a Japanese manual and the requests gush in! Whooooaaa...

I'm pretty sure there is a store(s) in Japan. But, most parts should be available from the Subaru dealers in Japan.

Right now, I'm planning on getting the manual only! Then I'll "branch out to other opportunities". I plan to go to Japan some time in the Summer or towards Christmas.. So maybe then?

Drifting Thru, Really? The bumpers are different? The only differences I see when looking at subaru.co.jp are between the 2.5RS and the WRXs are the wagons and the one Sedan.. the Wrx Sti V 6 (not the RA). I really don't see any other differences. I think the bumpers are generally the same. Some "bumper flares" can be added like what Adam bloom did to his to get a similar look. Look in the Mods Gallery to see what can be done there. Since the only difference seems to be that the bumper is flared out at the bottom more, i'm sure this is a MUCH LESS costly way to do these bumpers than to buy something from Subaru Japan.

Necromancer, in terms of goodies I guess you mean the whole small parts kit n' kaboodle? Shift knobs, stickers (blech..), little driving charms? Or do you mean the heavy duty stuff like brake disks, 4-pot calipers, the variable center diff (ya right!) , the HUD (just noticed that one on the site), etc.. Look at this site: http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/parts/index.html

Its all in Jp. but, some of the pictures should be clear to you if you are familiar with the parts..
