Post jeep wave for Impreza / subaru owners?

So I'm thinking why do only jeep owners get a special wave? Does Subaru have one?
AO

I know it's a dumb question.

Nobody I see in Philly ever waves or flashes! I didn't expect the weirdo with the rug on his wheel to even notice me, but I've run into a number of RS' and they just look at me funny when I wave. We are supposed to be the city of brotherly love, why can't anyone wave?!?!

Unhappy

You got that right, Alex. I drive into PA every day, and I see a fair number of OBS's (but only 4 RS's in 3 years). Nobody ever waves back. I was walking through U of DE campus in Newark, DE this weekend and saw an RS stopped at a light with the driver's window open. So I said, "Nice RS, I have an Impreza, too." The guy looked at me like I was speaking gibberish and didn't say a word. There's a gazillion Legacys of every type around here, but there's no point in waving to them; just don't get stuck behind them!

Wink

used to be like that here in the Pacific NW - RS' would wave, beep, honk, pull over to chat w/each other...

now there are so many... it's sorta faded out into non-existence

yesterday tho - I had an RS wave at me... I STILL have no idea who the driver/car was... that's cool... but a rare thing these days.

and Vette's... true... they do the "V" sign at each other... cool little wave...

I'm a little saddened noting that there isn't anything. I've had a motorcycle for years, and love the comrodery w/ other 'bikers' (doing the wave).

I always wave to other RS's on the road. Sorry OBS's, but most of the OBS drivers out there don't seem to be into this kinda thing

Hey! I wave to any other Subaru I drive past/come up to....but nobody's ever waved back. And I've got an Outback Sport. :P

What weirds me out is that some girl in a yellow '00 New Beetle waved at me as I drove past in my Earl Scheib-Silver '88 Volkswagen Jetta GL.

To quote Trio, "Da Da Da, Da" :P

just a wave jeep owners do to other jeeps. It's just a little flip of the wrist, and many jeep owners do it. It's just some sort of comrodery between owners of a brand of car...

The jeep wave is a nice thing, it takes a while to get used to. ("why did that guy wave at me?") There is a heirarchy to it, seems somewhat similar to a military salute: http://icdweb.cc.purdue.edu/~bricker...0w/asgt6b.html

Jeeps are fun, but I am looking forward to the turbo!

The SHO owners tend to wave. Its funny though that many of the older (retired) SHO owners will wave, while the lates crop of people buying them on the used car lots give you a dirty look. Even more Fun is around here the "wave" is a nice burnout off the line. Fun too when a guy "drag raced" me and this other guy without even reving on us. So we do our burnout, and proced to leave him like it got stuk in reverse. His ricer flyby was impressive though (in a white mid 80's camaro??).

the subie owners here don't tend to wave, but they do let you in, and other traffic "gifts", that other people would not.

Cool

When I used to drive my Dad's MGB, I'd wave to other sports car drivers, and they'd almost always wave back. I don't think it's as common anymore, though.

By the way, "sports car" was a much stricter term then (60s & 70s) - small two seat convertible - usually British or Italian though a Porsche was OK. No hardtops!

There's lots of waving going on when I drive my wifes jeep. I'll wave if I see another RS, only half of the owners will wave back.

Hey...are you referring to the campus police cars that ride around U of D? Wussup with the steering column being on the right hand side, like they are in Japan or something? Hehe!

Faraz - You get people wanting to race in the city? I've only had one challenge since I got my RS in May. It was from an Eclipse and the 'race' got ruined by a van in his lane, but I held him off for 50 feet. I drive in Philly everyday and nobody waves or races! If you see a '98 Rally Blue with a bra that's me - I'll wave back!

I always wave to RS's, and most do wave back. I think most that don't are too intent on the driving experience and don't see me near them.

It's funny, the other day at work I passed an RS and waved, forgetting that I was in my patrol car and not my RS. I ride a two man car, so my partner was breaking my b***s all night long...

I used to flick my light when i am behind. But there's so many Imprezas around now...especially in the Toronto area. So I stopped all together. However in the town where I work, it's still rare and I remembered when i was coming out from a junction a Rally blue 98 RS drove by infront of me and the driver pointed and waved at me. I waved back. Not anymore tho....

Talking

Clarification:

There are tons of Legacy's of all types in the greater Philly area (Outbacks everywhere). I easily see more than 10 Legacys for every Impreza. However, they mostly seem to be driven by older, conservative types. And they usually drive very conservatively (in a Scoobie?). I guess they got a "very safe Subaru" because they are so cautious. In fact, when I got my first OBS, a couple people at work said, "I hate Subaru drivers, they're always slow." They were right, mostly.

Except for the RS I followed up a 5 mile twisty in Great Valley. Much fun, once I caught up to him in my putt-putt OBS (I love that)!

I waved or beeped at three OBS's this week. No replies.

The U of DE campus cops (cops, right, snicker, snicker. Glorified meter maids.)used to drive RHD so that they can chalk tires to see if you've been parked somewhere for too long, though I don't go that way very often anymore. It's two miles down the road, but it's a traffic nightmare (unless its a very warm day, school's in session, and I want to check out the "sights." U of DE has an excellent guy/girl ratio, from a guy's perspective!)

Cool

I wave to every Subie I see as long as there isnt some old person driving it! So I guess that narrows it down a little! I ALWAYS wave to Brats, XT's, and Pre 85 sedans/wagons...nothing like them. Same deal with Impezas....I never pass any up. But you are right, most think Im crazy when my hand shoots out the window and wave!

Yeah, whenever I see another RS, I always wave....usually get a reponse back..but the other Subarus on the road...Nah I don't even bother. Most are soccer moms in Foresters or older woman in Legacys.
I must also add that VW guys also do the jeep wave. (aircooled VWs) Driving around in my dunebuggy gets all sorts of waves and thumbs up..but when another aircooled VW sees me, christ they just about freak out inside there car, waving and flashing there lights at me.

I'll have to try and wave at more Subaru's around here, to see if I get any response back from them. I hardly ever see any RS's around....and when I do, I am always in my g/f's car. Go figure.
