Talking I got the 1,000 point time in autocross today!!!

WoW~!

It was raining snow here in Colorado today (meaning the snow melts on contact with the ground), and we still had over 40 drivers show up to the autocross.

The ImprezaRS.com team completely toasted the entire field, hanging out rally style with windshield wipers going. My co-driver, Chas, came within 19 thousandths of me but didn't catch me! So, with our PAX score, we both tied for the 1,000 point run - the standard by which all other driver's points where tallied for the day.

What a way to end the season!

It looks like Chas will be 2nd in season points in ST class, and I will be 3rd in season points for Rookie class. I coulda moved out of rookie and taken second from Chas, but then Strepto woulda been pushed out of the trophy points for ST class.

In rookie class, we had over 70 drivers this year, so 3rd place for season points aint bad, with trophies for top 10 rookies (I think JJCassaSubieDriver is in the top 10 rookies as well). About a third of those rookies had a full 6 race season. Only 6 out of 14 drivers in ST class had a full 6 race season, with 5 trophies going out.

The amzazing thing was the car. With the AGX/Tein combo, 20mm sway bar, and the RE730's we could drive like it was dry! No spin outs, no more tail happy car. Phenomenal! It was really sticking and pulling some serious g's in the turns. And, this was in a parking lot that is notorious for being a poor traction track in the first place.

And, we had ton's of power, with the colder air temps, Larry's cold air intake and Stromung exhaust. No need to drop into first gear for the slow hairpin...

We were the only car today running in the 52's for the first 2/3 of the day, and everyone else was in the 54's. Then, the sun came out, the snow stopped, and a stripped clean EP VW Rabbit on Hoosier Dirt Trackers broke a 51.3. Then, no more clean runs until the last run of the day, with almost dry course, the EP car pulled a run in the 48's! However, with the PAX system, they only had around 950 points!

Even with the course drying, the other cars couldn't get below the 53's. Chas and I both felt we could have run under 51's in the dry, but no way we were gonna catch the EP car.

Overall, a great day! I'll post a longer write up at my web site tomorrow.

Congrats to all Colorado Subie Driver's on a truly kick ass first season! Also note that MOST of us are truly rookies and this was our very first year. Add to that most of the ST RS's being very mildly tuned and you have some great drivers!

GSL- Joy Matzke- 1st Place (partially in a RS, partially in a ITR)

ST- Chas Saulsbury- 2nd Place
Rolando Rios- 5th Place
Will Sweat- 6th Place

ST Rookie- Ashby Floyd- 2nd Place (partially in a RS)
Larry Ganz- 3rd Place
Your's Truly- 6th Place

Brad Golden
Jeb Baker
Chad Gagnon
Stephen Wang
Yevgeny Kolmanovich

Ashby did move out of rookie. He had three races over 930 points, and filled out his registration as ST class, but fooled us by adding an R to his shoe polish for rookie class.

So, Chas is now 3rd place ST class. I am Second place rookie and JJ is 5th place rookie.

My average points of 928.2 per race almost pushed me out of rookie as well. I barely eeeked by. They have a policy of two races over 930 points, or one race of 1,000 points kicks you out of rookie class. Because of the 1,000 points, I'd have to run the rest of the season out of rooie class - but the season is OVER!

Good job JJ !!!!!! You really did improve over the year. I can't believe you did a 58!

I did a writeup at my website as promised, that listed which RS drivers got what places. However, few people seem to care that an RS got the 1,000 point score

Y'know Larry, by the time next season rolls around, I may wish I had a detuned car. I'll have the STI struts and Tein coilovers on, hopefully, and the legacy turbo. Remember when I said I wanted the car do drive the way I wanted it to? The car feels underpowered now coming out of the turns with that 20mm sway bar. I know I know "...quit talking trash and get on the course!" My one trophy from the hopelessly victimized BMW club will have to do for now :}. I hope you'll be chasing me next season, and not the other way around. We'l talk soon... Gary
