Smile Subaru Track Day @ Thunderhill

Renting the track costs $5100 per day.

At 40 participants that would run $127.50 per person.

Can we pull this off? Somehow I doubt it.

Still, consider this plenty of notice. We could aim for a great time in September...maybe get some creative help in defraying the costs. If it was in September, the forty folks would need to save $16 a week...not bad really...what's another cup of ramen compared to 40 subarus blasting around a race track?

Thoughts folks? I'm doing this very same thing with some Porsche/Audi club guys in July (I'm the sole Subie orphan ) , and it struck me as a great way to get our Subarus together for a once in a lifetime (or year) Bay Area event.

We could combine this with a return tour of wine country and check out some vineyards my friends work on etc etc.

The Mille Subaru Norcal

cheers all

Of course I am always ready for some track time. I tried to get some people to commit to the July 29 Thunderhill Street School, but got a rather cool response....bunch of sissies . You can count me in for sure....if it happens.

Thumbs up

I'd be all over that like flies on a week old steak.

Good luck getting enough folks to participate though...

But count me as one more towards the magic 40!

I might see if the Porsche/Audi guys might want to mix it up...an AWD fest.

I'd love a real quality track day for Subaru's only....I'm actually not a fan of T'hill but I hear Sears is much more costly.

Im in. I'd even pay up to 200 for a day with less than 40 cars on the road.

Have you ever organized something like this? Have you thought about offering instructors for the unintiated?

I think the big thing you're working against right now is that people don't seem to want to risk their car. Or their tires. Or whatever else. Go read 'Byrons Car' in the main d board to understand what im talking about. I hope that MPREZYA is the exception to how people feel about going to the track, but I fear he's not.

Clearly this will only appeal to those who dig tracks days. I "risk" my car 2 days a month on track days. I know some Bay Area members who also really enjoy track driving.

We could line up instructors, although they will almost certainly not be all Subaru drivers.

I haven't set up a track day, but I feel confident we could pull it off. Since I'm a very business type guy, I'd actually just prefer to set it all up and then just post the day is available. However, I thought I'd judge interest since it seems low. Many folks spend their hard earned cash on mods, which of course I support, but the reality is this leaves many without the cash for track time.

Again, I satisfy myself with NASA, etc track days, I just miss the feeling you get from a single marque track day a la BMW, Shelby etc.

Just trying to do something community related.

cheers,

I'm definitely interested, but I think getting 40 people might be a tall order. Angus, your idea of mixing it up to get enough people might be more realistic.

Hello,

I'm game. I'd even drive my Scooby Like Joe said - for a day of 40 or less people, I'd pay extra. T-hill is a fun track, but with the usual huge run groups, it kind of sux. If we had 40 people split into 3 run groups, we'd have more fun than a barrel of monkeys!

Is that price for the whole track, the east loop, the west loop, or what? If it's the whole track, I'd spent $200ish in a heartbeat for a day.

And once we decide how much we want to pay, that's when we should decide whether to open it and to whom. It would be one thing to open it to anyone, but it would be much more fun if we could keep things tight-nit. Perhaps the Audi club or some other AWD club could join us and we could get instructors who are used to AWD cars to join us. (I hate RWD instructors who tell you to try things that are just plain stupid and not the right way to work with a car that doesn't have power-on oversteer)...

$5100 for a day. Does it include the emergency pit crews?

Thunderhill has many "invisible turns". We maybe need someone familiar with the track to guide the 1st timers through the course or setup cones to direct the drivers.

Anyway, my car should be ready the end of July so count me in.
