Question Super Trapp mufflers

I Need a new muffler due to my Stromung rattling like crazy.(not heat sheilds) I was gonna go with a Prodrive muffer, but i am hesitant to spend almost $400 on a muffler again. I have also heard very very good things about Super Trapp.

So my question is. If I buy the muffler(universal) can a muffler shop make a pipe that will mount to the muffler and bolt up to the flange on my stromung mid pipe? Or would they just cut the flange off the mid pipe and weld it up? Anyone that has done a custom exhaust feel free to chime in.

Anyone with Super Trapp experience feel free to comment. THey don't look... good... but i hear they are excellent. Need some input.

thanks,
Dolphin

I've not heard a Super Trapp on a Subie. I have heard them on a BMW M coupe, it sounded fantastic. Hope you can get similar results.

OK, i think i am going with the super trapp. I found a pic of an RS with one on it. Looks stupid, but i hear they are amazing so i will try it. They are only $106 from summit racing so it's worth a shot... might as well have a test pipe put in too.

I found a shop here in denver that does mandrel bending and... TITANIUM

i'll post pics when i get it done.

When you get it done let me know... I wanna see! I've been wondering what a Supertrap would be like on a Suby. Titanium huh? Pretty sweet.

Pm dave bruener about it. He had one on his RS. Also, he is a national-level auto-x driver. He sold it and got an STi, though.

Thats what I was thinking it was going to be. They've been doing custom work for the DSM guys for a long time. I had a custom catback on my Galant vr4, it was mandrel bent 3" and very nice.

Oh concerning the test pipe, if you dont' want a really loud car you might want to get a resonator included in your test pipe.

OOOOOHHHHH!!!! got it in the mail today. 1 day early. thank you summit racing!!! getting it installed tomorrow.

first impressions:

quality: um, wow. this is a $150 muffler and the welds are better than my $400+ strommung. THe fit and finish are really nice. Supertrapp logo pressed into the side. I got stainless steel and it is nice and shiny

looks: hmmm.. still like a robot penis to me, but looks alot better in person.

weight: this thing is liiiiiiiiiiiight. it weighs at most a 1/4 of what my strommung does.(the stromun has all the piping attached though.

it came with an exhaust hanger bracket and a clamp. I think i am going to have it welded straight on though.

i'll post drivnig/sound impressions tomorrow. I am going to miss my strommung someone else is taking it off my hands though

OK, just got back from the muffler shop. it cost $100 to get it welded in. all i have to say is.... what?!?!?! what did you say?!?!!?! this thing is LOUD!!! twice as loud as my stromung. I ran it first with all the plates on it(least backpressure) and the car felt like crap, but it was somewhat quiet. I took the plates completely out, and the car felt like it did with the stromung... huge difference, but the car is soooooooooooo loud now. Don't get me wrong it sounds bad ass, but it is rediculously loud.

I am probably going to have to buy the 12 plate set as oppsed to the 6 that came with it. I will deffinately get pulled over today so i am bringing the plates with me just in case.

ahh, my ears are ringing

so to sum it up: if you don't 10 million decibels in your ear, do not buy this muffler.

heh, i feel like a red neck with a straight pipe truck now.
