Thumbs up Baja seems very practical to me

it just seems like an overall practical pickup.

-can do stuff pickups can do
-AWD (as always)
-i assume it handles more like a car than other pickups
-4 door, holds 5 people
-good gas milage

a lot of people think they are ugly, but i think they look alright

Carkmouch,
You took the words out of my mouth. It is so great as a all around pickup. More car and more truck in my mind. Yes the bed is a little small for realy heavy duty pickup things, but you can get just about anything any normal person would use it for. Hell, You can even get a washer and dryer in the back with a strap and one hanging off the end about 2 inches. Before I moved down here to centeral CA, local dealership in Seattle had one on the lot that was a customers in for it's normal service. I spoke with a sales person and he spoke with the owner when they came in and they said that it was just great. They got the washer and dryer in it no problems, a refrigrator w/out problems, just tall, and alot of other things they never thouht would fit.

I don't see why people are bashing the car so mutch, but I really like it. If people are so against it the looks, and want the usable space like a open bed, then they should get the camper shell for it. It makes it look more like the outback wagon and have the option of removing the shell.

But you do have one thing incorrect. it only holds 4 people. the center in the back seats is a console and not a seat. I find that back romy for me, and I am a little larger than the some.

I just wish that I could aford one right now. Unimployed and looking and waiting for the '04 model year. I have a thing about first year model cars and want to have the option of the turbo.

Just my $0.02. Wanted to make sure that you didn't feel alone out there.

Good points, you both! I'm also waiting for Turbo model as non-turbo models gasp for air very bad in our town (Denver). Aslo due in part I mountain-bike all year around, need a hauler that lets me drive 40 miles on highway every day, even in snow. I hate the way pickups drive (boat), and how almost every single one of them blind passenger car drivers .

Looks issue:
I (for one) am not so hot with 05 Legacy style - I think it lost the "ruggedness" of current model by making it pretty, like Honda (it's probably just me), and I'm not all that confident Baja suvives next year...

Perception issue:
I think, people hate Baja since they look like pickups, and some (lots?) of people in this country hate "tough-looking" cars, without thinking about what they really use the car for. Let them be, and let's just smile and feel sorry for their incapability to see what's beyond obviousness.

Hatake,
You said it. I hate the trucks around here in the mountians and driving at night every truck that gets behind me and blind me with their normal lights and not their high beams.

But I did find out that Santa Cruz, CA seeams to be the subaru capitol in the US. Subaru seems to have the highest market share around here. I see at least 2 baja's a week as well.

I also am not confident that the Baja will survive past next year. .

Although I have only seen two other Baja's on the road hear, my dealer tells me they are selling alot of them. In fact before I purchased mine the factory only sent them fix or sixof them and that would be all they would get. Now they are selling more, they are getting more in stock. They even got the dark blue monotone Baja Sport that wasn't even a option they could order when I orderd mine two months ago.

And I'm sure you don't care, but when compared to Audi Allroad, Baja Turbo will fare pretty well - 0-60 on automatic in Adui is 7.3 sec (same as Baja T with automatic), almost 500 lb lighter. I havef 2 friends with Audi, and (maybe it's just their cars, but) they are in shop quite frequently. Allroad can't hold its hight up over 10mph - and they can't figure why, and radio skips around mysteriously, very poor gas consumption rate, on and on... I just wished Baja T has hight adjustment, too. 1.8T is lots slower than Baja Turbo...

I love the baja, The dealership I worked I work at sells tons of them. We constantly have people trading off their large trucks such as a F-150 SuperCrew, Ram 2500 and various mid size trucks. I am at school now but over the summer there seemed to be a huge demand for them, in South Dakota anyway. Strange but true. I think they just need to revise it a little more, the extra clearence will help a lot too.
