Question Volk SF Challenge 19x8.5 ET42

I want to get these wheels for my '05 STi but I need to make sure they fit. I checked the list and it had a set of TE37's in 19x8.5 ET43 as fitting, but that's the lowest offset shown as clearing on a 05 STi. These are my dream wheels, so if anyone can verify fitment I sure would appreciate it. Thanks.

it says the offset A is the one that fits and you're SOL b/c a +34mm is too low an offset.

Ok I'm considering getting some 17x8.5 wheels with 235/40/17 tires.

Tires will be Michelin Pilot PS2 due to their incredible low weight of only 21 lbs and overall suberb performance. For track use, I will probably get Bridgestone RE-01R's but for street, the PS2 is what I'll be running.

Now, I understand stock offset is 52-53mm. I want to get the lightest wheel possible. Tire rack has the SSR Competition - RS for $409 each. Apparently, the RS is a beefier version of the old Competition. It adds 1lb of weight, but apparently is well used to make the wheel a lot stronger than the previous version.

So... that being said, what wheels would you guys recommend for 17x8.5 in 48mm or 52-53mm offset. I want to stick as close as possible to the stock offset to maintain the scrub radius.

From page 1:
17 wheels:
-------------------
Advan RG-II = 17x8.5_ET50... (black on imprezawrxsti.com)
Rota Boost = 17x8.5_ET48... (Subydude)
Rota Slipstream = 17x8.5_ET48... (SubyDude)
SSR Competition = 17x8.5_ET48__(14.9 lbs)... (Luke@Tirerack)
Volk CE28N 17x8.5_ET50... (cusco4life)
Volk TE37 17x8.5_ET50... (STiMonSTAR on imprezawrxsti.com)
------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, looks like I've narrowed my choices down to the above.

Does anybody have the weight specs for the Rota Boost, Rota Slipstream, CE28N, and TE37 in the sizes above?

I was initially leaning towards the SSR Competition RS which is 16.4 lbs, but the Advan RG-II, Volk CE28N and TE37 are available in 50 offset which is closer to stock 53.

You're looking at very broad price range. Hopefully you knew that going into this.

and the TE37 is no longer available in a 17x8.5 +50mm (that fits the MY05 STi). It is still listed on their site, but doesn't say it clears our brembos. The only thing I can think of is they slightly changed the face of that given size/offset.

the RGII is still available in a +50.

the SSRs will be easier to get your hands on due to Tire Rack carrying them, plus you'll save some cash on mounting and balancing. (assuming you have them do it).

I take it you're not using camber plates?

your scrub radius will be completely imperceivable vs stock even with a offset change in the 8-10 range. You're already going to be changing it as you're fitting wider than stock wheels.

The benefit in the wider wheel is the wider tire - the benefits far outweight the potential downsides of increased scrub radius on these cars.

As mentioned, the SSR is the easiest to come by (we have em at $405 each). Any Volk or Advan in a 17 inch is going to be special order so be prepared for a long wait

Sorry to hijack, but, could someone explain scrub radius to me, and why it is a bad thing?

Ok I sorta lied.

the TE37 06 Model has a 17x8.5 +50mm that clears the brembos, but the regular TE37s in that same size do not.

....Ok all is well now

Here is a very basic explanation

1. My understanding is that even though wider wheels are being fitted, if the offset is maintained at 53mm, scrub radius remains unchanged.,

2. Why is Volk or Advan in 17" special order? How long is a long wait?

All is ALMOST well

Just a few more things... I need to get the weights for the following:
---------------------------------
Advan RG-II = 17x8.5_ET50... (black on imprezawrxsti.com)
SSR Competition - RS = 17x8.5_ET48__(16.4 lbs)... (Luke@Tirerack)
Volk CE28N 17x8.5_ET50... (cusco4life)
Volk TE37 Model 06 17x8.5_ET50... (STiMonSTAR on imprezawrxsti.com)
------------------------------------------------------------------

So Advan RG-II clears, Volk TE37 Model 06 clears... can somebody confirm if CE28N clears and what the weight is for 17x8.5 for these 3 wheels?

So Advan RG-II clears, Volk TE37 Model 06 clears... can somebody confirm if CE28N clears and what the weight is for 17x8.5 for these 3 wheels?
STIMonSTAR had the original TE37s not the Model 06s.

and yes the 17x8.5 +50mm CE28Ns clear, as for weights it'll be tough to get an exact weight b/c it differs so much between offsets, widths, ect. but it will be similar if not lighter than the SSR RS.

The TE37 06's are heavier than the CE28Ns in the same size.

this is true b/c the location of the center line hasn't changed, yet usually the goal of running a wider wheel is to have more inboard clearance for wider tires.

And if you're also concerned with scrub radius as much as it sounds you are, you should be running 0 camber or even slightly positive.

this isn't not ideal for performance and the "positive" change to the scrub radius when adding more "-" camber has far less effect on handling then the benefits of the added camber.

I do believe the same goes for the added grip from wider tires, now, wanting to stay close to +53mm isn't a terrible idea, I just don't think you need to be as worried about as you are (assuming you don't go lower than +43).

they either get sold out fast in our fitments, or Mackin doesn't stock many/at all of the proper fitment for 17". The wait can be anywhere between 3-6 months, longer if you're looking for a custom color.

This isn't a tire thread, I'd be more then happy to talk about it somewhere else, I just don't want to muck up this thread asking for all the info neccessary to answer your question correctly.

the 5zigens will clear the calipers (assuming it is 5x114.3)

i'm wondering if these wheels would fit my 2006 sti. i had them on my 2004 wrx wagon, loved them, and they are available in 18x7.5" 5x114.3 ET45. i'm not sure if they would clear the brembos with that offset.

they look like volk knock offs, yeah yeah i know.. i'm keeping my stock bbs as track/autox wheels and want a cheap set to drive around chicagoland in and won't care if they get beat up. i'd rather get these again than a set of rotas or something.

they are rev model 2 wheels, here's a picture of them on my old wagon...

any help is appreciated!

I searched this thread and it looks like people have confirmed that there are two 18" Advan that fit an '05 STi - the RGII and the RS. Can anyone confirm for sure if there are other 18" Advan models that work? I'm partial to the AVS Model T7 as a first choice, but could go for the RCII.

Advan T7 18x8 +45, 5-100 and 5-114.3 fits

RCII is not made

RS fits, RGII fits, Super Advan Racing II fits

Model 5 fits as well I believe

blueteamno - not likely that those will fit
