Question What ever happened to the IS300 testdrive?

Some members were going to testdrive the car before the actual release. What were your thoughts?

Thinking of getting an IS300 but leaning more towards the S4.

S4 + chip + exhaust + intake = ~330hp WOW!

i drove the IS300 last saturday at Englishtown, NJ and it was overall a good experience. the car is light and handles very well in the corners, great brakes, nice interior, though the back seats are a little cramped for those over 6'. triptronic was cool addition but i didn't get to try it out as the course was too small to get a sense of it. i liked the car a lot, but would wait for the manual shifter (next year?). very smooth, very finished package, will prob be the next hottest car after the PT Cruiser in the coming year. for $30k though, not in my range!

Thumbs up

I just got back from driving a IS300 today at Suffolk Downs in South Boston. Impressive car, I must say. Amazing brakes - I wish my RS had brakes like that.

I agree though -- wait for the manual. The tiptronic is a joke - I can shift faster than that manually on my RS, or at least it feels that way. The engine is really nice though. I couldn't feel any VTEC-like cut-in of power -- just kept me planted against the seat all the way up the rev band.

It started raining torrentially while I was testing driving it -- they also had a Audi A4 2.6 Quatro and BMW 328 for comparison that we could drive on the same autocross track. The quatro really came into being there -- no one spun out, but I was having loads of fun drifting the A4 through the corners while everyone was pussyfooting through the puddles =) Afterwards, the guy behind me in line whispered "hey, you really made the Lexus look bad out there."

My shot at it comes this weekend, the 24th. I cant wait. Is the shifter really that slow? I wonder what the weight difference with a 5/6 speed manual would be.

Gentlemen, (and ladies), I would just like to throw this little tidbit in regarding the IS300... The IS300 engine is the same 225HP I-6 that was in the late, lamented Mark IV Supra. That being said, the Supra Twin Turbo engine is supposed to be a bolt in affair, since it's mounting points are mechanically identical to it's naturally aspirated sibling. We all know how well the Supra Twin Turbos responded to modifications... :]

Discuss amongst yourselves. :]

Cool

Yeah, I've been obsessed with the IS300 lately. RWD, 4DR, I6-~200hp & lbs/ft. Good price compared to the 328i and A4 V6. The only problem I have is no manual option (vs 328i) and definitely no AWD (vs A4)

It's gonna be fun to see this battle - the funny thing is that the engine seems to be quite torquey compared to the GTS or Honda VTEC. Man, I wanna test drive this thing - too bad dealers up here will be very unwilling about it (test drives), just like the GTS

Went to see my IS300 today! White with tan interior, zenon lights, etc... (the two charcoal grey IS's were sold) It is sooooo fine. I want this car so bad BUT, my dad said to stick with the soobie. (IS goes for $44,800 here) I did manage to get him to trade my 2dr RS for a 4dr with leather. I just have to switch all the mods from car to car and get the Anthracide 17 P7's on!

IS300, beware!!!

Digital_Boy, are you saying that a Supra TT will drop right into an IS300. What about the drivetrain? Is or has someone done this? Sounds like a fun car, has potential.

Eric, just my 2 cents worth. My buddy at a local Lexus dealer informed me that the TT I-6 Supra motor should bolt in. Also, within the year the car will be available with a 5 speed from the Supra, although I thought they had a 6 speed on the later models. The car will be available as a more base model without leather, sunroof, automatic, etc. But, the suspension, stereo, and 17" wheel options will be offered. That ought to drop the sticker from $35K to $30-32K.
I was lucky enough to drive one yesterday. It was sweet!! I noticed a slight lag off the line when you just stomp on the gas. But, other than that, the car was impressive. Quiet, smooth, quick, handles great, nice stereo, sweet seamless shifting 5 speed automatic, nice seats, ... shall I continue to babble? Now if I could just get the wife interested in it for her next car. Hmm...

As all of you probably know, the IS300 is the Altezza in Japan.. This car is the MOST heavily modded car next to the Skylines, Civic Rs and the Integra Rs.. There are body kits, exhaust kits, turbos, LSDs and everything.. Plus.. this is a great car to drift!! The brakes are excellent and the rear end of the car tends to rooser tail a bit.. A bit of dynamic instablilty to induce drifting.. Sorta like the Silvia. (the most likely car in Japan to be used for drifting purposes)

I would get one, but I already have my Scooby.. Thank you VERY much.. My dad hates the rear design.. He thinks its a mercedes Benz copy.. (Which was copied from the Honda Prelude) He says that Toyota has a way of copying designs or creating ugly ones..
