So should all members have to log their Subaru VIN number at initial login???

Actually, I came here to get some basic info on whether or not an RS could be turbocharged successfully. At the time, I'd heard about the WRX, and had read SPD's webpage, and at that time, they were stating that a turbo EJ25 wouldn't be a reliable engine.
I don't own an RS right now for a variety of reasons, chiefmost being money. Now that I have a steady job, and back pay, I might be looking to buy one. I'd like to get one that's already been turboed, since I don't have a garage of my own where I can work on major projects, which installing a turbo would be. And I don't fancy paying someone $50-75 an hour to install one for me.Right now, I'm sick and tired of waiting and of Murphy's Law biting me on the a$$... I want to dump my Neon and get something sportier, like a turbo RS or an M3, etcetera, etcetera. I'm done ranting now, thankyewverymuch. |

Aw crap. If that happens, then I'm gone. That would be a shame. I've learned a great deal from this place.

rsquire, I have always respected your comments, and learned from your responses. This is one lesson in exclusion that I don't need - we've got enough prejudice in the world.
What is the real problem? |

I agree with what everyone else has said. Also,I too many people come to this board to get information about buying their own RS over brand X car. To turn them away just because they don't own one *yet* doesn't make sence.

Bad idea. I didn't join this club until I took delivery of my Impreza, but I have nothing against non-Subie owners posting here if they need info or have something constructive to add. Now people listed in the members section should be Subaru owners since this is an owners club. I don't see the point of using our VIN #'s to log in though. In fact if this becomes a requirement I will probably just remove myself from the members section and use the Checkpoint BBS from now on. That would be a shame.

Ya, just because you don't own a suby yet doesn't make you any less of an enthuasiast (sp?). Look at Simon Sirin over at Checkpoint Stage 2. He had a great site up and running with a message board long before he ever bought his car.

This board should be a Impreza enthusiasts board. A place to go when people need info on the RS and other Impreza's. If you make it a Suby owners only board, there would be a lot less members. Like me for instance. I love the Impreza, but currently I do not have the cash to go out and buy one. So I have to drive my '94 Taurus SHO until then. Besides, I think I am going to wait until the new SVX comes out ( I Hope) in 2004. Then the US will have a 280 hp two door Impreza. That I will buy. I just hope it will look as good as the current Impreza. Ever see the picture of the Blue Impreza in the Brochures? Man what an awesome picture.

Richard has a point here, its called "orth American Subaru Impreza Owners Club"
I doubt that he wants to get rid of all the other members, but it says owners in the name of the club. So a change in the clubname, is that what you suggest or are you just bored out of your mind? =^) |

Maybe by registering with your VIN, it would alow you in to certain areas that non-owners could not. Maybe a "owners only" forum.
Just an idea ![]() |

I enjoy the variety of comments and topics. Just yesterday I posted a topic and had several excellent ideas within the day. If the site is restricted to "owners only" much of this variety will be lost. VIN's are a bad idea in my opinion.

Maybe the VIN could be put in the member's profiles? Not in the boards? That is if the VINs are wanted or needed for any reason.

But if we put our Vin's in the members section, SOA can check them and the oh so proudly presented mods... There goes your warranty.
No good! |

Exactly Frank! That's why I will not put my VIN anywhere on this board or anywhere else. I'm sure they could trace our cars VIN if they really wanted to just by cross referencing the member lists names and addresses with their sales records. They never would go through that much work though. Why should we make it easy for them. Like I said, if this board makes the VIN a requirement, I'm gone. C-YA!

I believe forcing people to own a Subaru before they can register here would do nothing but spread ill will. If people come here, see the awesome possibilities for kicking butt with a Subaru, and then go out and buy one, we are all better off.

A Very Bad Idea!!!
I for one do not care if you own a Subie, are saving pennies until you can own one, or just respect the vehicle and what it can do. If some people feel it is necessary to delineate the owners from the non-owners, just have a box you can check when you sign-up. T-WRX..I hear you Bro and concur My 2cents! |

Even if I had my WRX already, I wouldn't be posting my VIN number ANYWHERE... all it takes is a contact at a dealership and a VIN number, and you can get a key made. I read about this at a Type-R owners board... those guys have reason to be paranoid considering the theft rate on those.
And anyway, thoughtful commentary and insight related to Subarus is not limited to Subie owners... -- ConeMasher |

I can't believe this is even a question. I only got my RS a week ago today but I have been a member for a while. Not only did this board help me to decide to get one, But I was also able to make helpful comments to other people on this board. Besides, some of the 'strongest' members on this board are non-owners. Forgive me I forget his name,( I think it was imprezive; a bobBarker look a like sold him his car) but the kid had hundreds of post here, before he got his car. And when he did get it, EVERYONE knew him and congratulated him. It would not only be a shame for that to go away it would be a serious dent to the club. Because not only would we lose non-owners, People like myself that are owners would not put up with the segregation, and we would leave too.

I has a big post thought up while I was washing my car, but everyone else has pretty much covered the high points.
Basically, this board is a share of knowlege, people ask questions, people get answers. People like MikeYOX and ProgSi are valuable contributors because they know *cars*, last time I checked Subaru still made cars. edit: forgot a major point If just one person buys a subaru because of what they learned on the board, my life will be complete, and gee, look at the post above mine, I guess my life is complete! I don't think that we sould let our egos get away from ourseleves and make this an "exlusive club". The day that happens is the day I install UBB on my webserver and let *everyone* in. If anything this post is a cry for a OFF TOPIC forum. We have serverly reduced the signal-to-noise ratio in the general forum, getting the crap into it's own forum would help a lot (in other words follow Scoobynet2's example). Just my 2yen. Hey Richard, if we stay very correct with the title of our club, you couldn't be in here anyways, being a non northamerican as you are, aren't you?
