Thumbs up Gruppe-S headers

bought the gruppe-s headers used from a friend of mine (petrol) and finally got around to installing them. kind of a pita install cause it had been a while since i had done the uppipe install, all bolts were a BEOTCH to get off, but not bad. reused all old gaskets, absoltley no leaks... same as when intsalled the gruppe-s upipe a long time ago. anyways all went on smoothly... GREAT fit and finish. very high quality. i was extremely impressed with the appearace and all.

took the car for a drive and wasnt really expecting much but i was pleasantly surprised. there is deff a stronger top end... enough to where my gf noticed it was deffinatley pulling harder. and about the apparent lag increase, it is noticeable but the rest is deffinately worth it IMHO.

then the sound, i have the upipe that came with the headers (selling my old one with 6k if anyones interested), hks catless dp, blitz nur-spec catback. (all aftermarket finally! ) anyways its not as bassy as it was, but still very bassy, all the afterfires are more noticeable, its got a very lumpy sounding idle, and sounds mean up high in the rpm's.

all in all i would deffinately recommend the gruppe-s headers to anyone. (the 4-1 collector)

They're not equal length. They're unequal, but a lot more equal than the original headers.

Sorry, I don't have a sound clip. However, plenty (20+) people over on Scoobynet have fitted these headers this summer. You might find a clip if you have a look around/ask there.

Do you mean the undertray? When my headers were fitted the undertray was left off. When I queried it I was told that there would have been no way it would have fitted back on unmodified.

i have to say that my gruppe-s headers are fabulous. allows the turbo to kick on earlier and give you more mid to upper range torque. excellent craftsmenship, but the only thing i dont like is the flexible pipe that they provide you with, i prefer a sold up pipe piece, even though the gruppe-s up pipe piece looks like its a excellet quality piece, i have seen too make of teh flexible pipes break.

do the gruppe-s headers require the use of their up pipe? I have a vishnu up pipe, will I have a compatibility conflict here?

Just had them installed with my Helix up pipe, and I am now totaly cattless. Great sound and it does feel like the top end pulls a little harder.

Other exhaust mods:
Helix down pipe
Cobb catback

There must be the bung for OEM first O2 sensor, but is there a 2nd bung for EGT sensor ?

Case 'YES' : is there a plug provided to fill it ?

Mine's ordered...

Anyone know if these headers will work on a 2.5?
I would like to get them now while I have the 2.0 still in my car.
Thinking about getting the STi block soon...

Thanks.

Hi

El Crichon - Sorry for the confusion, the Gruppe-S V2 Manifold does not include an EGT bung for an additional EGT probe. We chose not to do this because there has been much debate on where to locate the EGT bung for best results. However tapping and welding a bung onto the manifold usually takes 10-15 min

WRXtreme02 - Yes, they will work with teh 2.5 STI

WRXbeater11 - Sorry, we do not have sound clips because the exhaust sound is mostly determined by your uppipe, downpipe, exhaust setup, rather than by the manifold. The main difference between the Gruppe-S V2 manifolds and some of the others on the market is that you do not lose the separate exhaust pulsing "scooby sound".

Thanks,

Gary

Gruppe-s, If I were to purchase set of your headers, could you place an EGT bung for me at the #3 outlet?

1) why do you not lose the boxer sound? Do unequal length let you keep the sound?

Yes, unequal length lets you keep the sound. Some people claim they make the car soundmore like a Porsche, more high-pitched. I have a Borla header, it sounds somewhat similar to the setup before the header.

i have to say, i have the gruppe-s header and im taking it off for two reasons.

a) it has *increaed* spool time a little with my vf34.
b) it made my exhaust more "tin" sounding, much more high pitched than i like.

However, I have to say, the headers are awesome quality, they fit perfect and for 6k miles, no leaks.

editted for backwardness.
