That is unbelievable. That's C$6k more than a nicely appointed Explorer SportTrak. SOC has their head up their ass if they think Canadians are going to lay that kind of dough on an Outback.
Look, I love Subaru's, but the ONLY car I would even consider spending that kind of money on better rhyme with....B4-RSK! [This message has been edited by markus (edited September 21, 2000).] [This message has been edited by Imprezer (edited September 21, 2000).] |

Hell yeah !
the H6 OB is alot better than even a V70 XC. i've seen them last month at the dealer in NZ and the car is luxurious, and will take out any ford in the trails or snow (i know i've done it with an RS). Plus the McIntosh sound system is a beauty, truely amazing. and let's not forget the Subaru will continously raise prices for a while because they're amaing at BMW, Audi and Volvo for competition now... for example, in NZ for 1999 and 2000 the RSK B4 was NZ$58 000 and in 2001 they did not change the car at all exept they removed the leather from the seats and raised the price to NZ$62 000... it's just like that, the more expensive it is the more attractive it is O/... |

Yeah, but I wonder if it is worth it. Its not like its got the most powerful motor in the world or anything. Don't get me wrong, the outback is quite the machine, but I wonder how many people are willing to shell out $40k cdn for one.

Subaru aiming at BMW and Audi, hahaha, that's funny!! Why? Subaru is already well regarded in other countries for doing just that (see Legacy B4 RSK or the Blitzen, which they collaborated with Porsche to create, IIRC). The new Outbacks, in VDC or LL Bean Trim, are "not your father's Subaru" Subaru is upgrading its image in the US to match the rest of the world, just like Toyota (Lexus) and Honda (Acura). Subaru has already aimed its products at Volvo/Saab but will not impress the VW/Audi/BMW crowd because the interiors are not made of titanium etc. Also the cars (esp Outback, Forester) are designed to go mildly off-road and are built accordingly, unlike a VW Variant or Allroad whose driver would never take his/her precious wheels anywhere near grass. Even the Vortex/Audiworld guys admit this - repair costs alone on these cars are horrific.
Subaru's market positioning is different from country to country - makes it difficult to pin then down. Besides, I would have thought CD$40,000 (which is, what, ~US$27,000?) for a 3.0 litre six with a heap of innovative, rally-bred engineering was an absolute steal (less than the cost of a base BMW 323i/325i).
