Question Anyone else having this problem?

Ok, I'm driving to work today and I'm on the highway (435 for people around Lenexa, KS) and I get behind this person in a white civic 4 door (dx i think) going about 65 in a 70 so i go into the other lane to pass her not really thinking about it, when I guess she speeds up and I guess i did too then before I know it we're both going 90 down the freakin highway, so I slow down and get back behind her when she preceeds to slow back down to 60 . This happening to anyone else, it's really annoying.

I can't exactly say I have had that problem but mine is close to yours. While driving my regular routine every day people feel the overwhelming urge to pull out in front of me and then drive 5mph under the speed limit. Not a car behind me and, they couldn't of waited to pull out after i've gone by? Who knows. Makes me appreciate the 230 horsepower my SVX has though as I fly by them

I do what I can to ignore those people, but sometimes you just have to smoke 'em.

Use caution... there is another driver on this board, who just recently got hit by another driver playing games on the freeways...

And hey remember, we all have that wonderful AWD advantage. And worse yet most of our vehicles just have that air to them... That hey you, ya you, come-on lets race look...

Cool

Blank drivers match the speed of anything going in the same direction.

That is the easiest way for them to get where they are going.

They have never used their brains for anything, why change now.

Itís almost parasitic.

Hang up and drive.

I hate when that happens..
funniest case of that I ran into was when i was going up to an Autocross in Glenn, NH.
Huge stretches of 93 with no one on it...
Also.. I had a friend following me so I have whitnesses..

anyway moving along just a around 75MPH heading north.. I am in the right lane.. I come on a little Ford aspire (replacemet of the festiva) a real preformance machine... He is also in the right lane and I am pulling up on him pretty decently.. So I move to the left lane to pass... and he speeds up.... ok.. so I move back over and he slows... so I pull back over and he repeats it and speeds up again... this happened 3-4 times till we hit our exit.. I wasn't in the mood to race so I let him keep it and kinda just laughed to myself. Wouldn't have even been 1/25th of a challenge to overtake him..
when we got there.. it was the first thing my friend who was following commented on... "hey.. you get a load of the guy in the aspire.. what was he thinking!?"

Yeah, I agree with OBSS. A lot of people just don't pay attention. You catch up with them, and then when you go out to pass them, they unwittingly match your speed. They're just brain dead. Although I've never had anyone match me up to 90.

I normally follow a speeding car - but I'd never tail gate or pass nor do I drive on the same lane. I call them "pace cars" so in case there's a cop checking for speeders, he'll see that car first. And I almost always drive on the slow lane. The radars and lasers are normally aimed at the passing lane.

And there is always the 6 inched exhaust, 19"/42 pound chrome plated wheeled, 85 horsepowered stickered machine that can't accelerate up to hwy speeds and MERGE.

Yield VS. Merge and the people who donít know the difference.

At the end of the ramp, this car will force itís way into traffic @ 30 miles per hour AND then catch up and pass you 45 minutes later, topped out at 76mph.

Ha.

I had the same problem with some stupid punk kids in their Prelude Type SH, which BTW I think was an auto, and I am not about to play around with some losers, especially with my pregnant wife and other passengers in the car. Just let them get their kicks and tell all their friends and since they live in a nearby city where I know quite a few kids I am just waiting to hear about a Prelude that toasted an Impreza 2.5RS. HA HA

Yeah I've noticed ever since I got my RS that everyone I pass thinks I'm racing them. And on the highway people will try to race me even if I'm just doing 70-75 and staying with traffic. It gets to be annoying after awhile. I guess it's all because of the spoiler?

I HATE that. And it always happens with the minivans...like seeing some teenager in a sports car is a blatant insult to their manhood. Will they get it in their head that I'm not going to race them, that all I want to do is pass them, and that they could be courteous enough not to push their blocky kid-carrier to the limit so they can keep up with me?

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in this, though. Guess it's the car's look at work.

Yup, happened yesterday on the way back from the beach. Some punk in a ricie VW, had to pass him on the right ("if they pass you on the right, you're wrong"), then he accelerates from 65 up. He gave up at 85, but I wasn't pleased at going 90 on a patrolled road. I let him know he was #1 when I passed. Of course, then he slowed down. I must have passed over a dozen cars on the right. The road is even marked "keep right, pass left." Fargin' clueless, inconsiderate schmucks.

I think the hood scoop and spoiler gives people an attitude about the car. When I drove a Ford van, people simply got out of the way. Now, I try to follow someone who's moving well with a big pickup or SUV. Let them intimidate people out of the left lane. No-one clears space for an Impreza!

Unhappy

I am getting kinda sick and tired of the constant attempts at racing! I was coming back from a concert on Saturday night and there were at LEAST 3 attempts...maybe even 4. I was tired, I had been out in the sun, I had a car full of women (woo hoo!) and I just wasn't in the mood.

The worst example I can think of was when a new white Honda Accord passes me (on the right of course, didn't even give me time to pull over a lane). After he passes me he slows down again so he is next to me. I was going about 80mph. He sits there for a while...then floors it and shoots off...screams over all the lanes...and exits the freeway.

Childish! It had to be about 12pm-1am on a Saturday night. Not the smartest time to be racing (cops and drunk/tired drivers). But hey, I restrained myself and let him go. But damn it felt good to vent a bit here.

I dont have this problem on the highway but on backroads. Most of the time I commute to work on backroads where there is nobody in sight. However, I run across some people travelling at 40 mph in a 55 zone (even had a brand new GT Eclipse doing it the other day!). I wait patiently behind them at least 5 car lengths back for the next passing zone. Then I carefully execute a pass. Usually the person gets pissed and tries to speed up but it is too late. They flash their high beams and get all pissy like I am the one doing something wrong. I mean 40 in a 55 zone??? Come on!!

Funny, this thread came up as this just happened to me today. I was going home
when I passed a sideroad and there's this Oldsmobile Alero with 3 youngsters. I know they were looking at my car as I passed them. Then they proceeded to tail me. I didn't really care as I had a bad headache. Then I turned right. They followed. The road opened up a bit and I thought shud I gun the car? But I decieded to drive normally. And sure enough I watched the Alero pulled to the next lane to pass me. Funny thing was that, les than 50metres away they had to make a left. So why accelerate to like 100km/h just to pass me but to slam on the brakes to turn? Beats me. Lil kids....prolly intimidated as the sight of my car.
