Post Turbo Mirage... ?

Just talked to my friend with a 93 mr2 turbo. He told me that he was on the freeway when this mirage rolls up to him and blows him off! He said it was a greddy type-s. Oh well, anyways, my friends car has a bunch of bolt ons and he said this guy could hang. My guess is that it had the eclipse turbo motor in it. He said it looked just like a lancer too, fender flares and all. Anyways, just wondering if any of you guys ran into him before.

There was one in TMR m'zine that had an auto mirage made up like an EVO he was part of a shop in the Pacific North West I believe and used the stock mirage engine. Also since your in Aneheim it wouldn't suprise me if it was the left hand drive EVO SCC tested.

BTW what color was it? The one in TMR was white and the SCC EVO was Mettalic silver.

The one my friend raced was black. Yea, I saw that EVO that SCC tested in front of the NOS R&D shop out in Costa Mesa. Its was all bashed up on the driver, er I mean passenger side. But naw, it was definately a mirage, my friend saw the badging in the back.

Makes me wonder... could one get a Mirage and an Eclipse GSX and splice together an Evo? Not that it'd be worth the price of two cars, just that it'd be damn cool, though.

It would take alot of work as the hubs and axles and tranny are different. I have a 94 Colt(Mirage last body style) and i was looking at my friends GS-T and wondering if it would work which would probably be easier than the GS-X.

That white Mirage/evo copy in Seattle sports a turbo from who else- Minnam! Now he got a new ride to play with: R-32 Skyline GT-R RHD.

Mitsu's for sale though: eek 25,000 obo. with his Phoneix Gold sponsored system.

From all accounts it is very easy to put an Eclipse engine into a Mirage. The older EVOs are basically just Mirages/Lancers with Eclipse drivetrains so it shouldn't be too hard to do. I know that out here (Jamaica) there is a Mirage hatchback with full Evo drivetrain that they used to rally.

I don't know why more people don't do it. It would be sort of like the Honda Hybrids.

The old colt/mirage hatch backs had turbo 1.8l engines in them on the high end and there was on featured not long ago that transplanted an Eclipse 2.0L turbo engine into it. On mine I would have to change alot of stuff to get it done and if the engine ever died I will probably look into a GS-t engine and hubs/knuckles. If it was that simple then I would figure alot would do it since that would make one heck of a sleeper adn it only weighs 2400lbs IIRC. I really don't think it would be as easy as that for my Model year maybe easier on the newer models but I haven't seen the layout of the engine.

Any year Eclipse motors can be swapped into the 92-96 Mirage's(Evo III style) without any modification. It is a direct bolt-on. You'll still have to change the ECU, wiring, etc.

This has been tried and true method done by a lot of people including TAD Motorsports.

The 97-00 Mirage(Evo IV style) doesn't have the proper mounting location and a lot of fabrication is needed.

I personally know of 4 97-00 Mirages around my area that have been turbocharged on the factory 1.8 engine. Not bad of a performance but you still lack the AWD feature.

Aspen my car looks nothing like the EVO 3 the only Mirages that I have seen that look close to that is 95+ IIRC not the older body style (rounded like no where like the EVO style) and for the GSX conversion you would have to swap at least hubs/knuckles since the GSX is a 5/114 bolt pattern and the Mirage is a 4x100 and you would have to use the GSX rear axles. If it can be done explain more as I might just keep the car and swap it since I know a local place that can get me everything for $2k.

Unhappy

Is the owner of the Evo name Jack? The same guy who ran Ultraspeed? That guy ripped me off. He sold me a turbo kit and refused to install it. He even wanted to send me up to Minnam to have it installed! What kind of business is this? Nice Evo though. Heard it runs 14's and it's an auto.

Doesn't Germany have the LHD Evo available? Too bad you can't get just eh drivetrain out of a wrecked one and have it shipped over. Then you'd have the engine, ecu, trans and AWD. Then again I like a good project car. Too bad I don't like Mitsubishi. Well that is except for the Evo.
