Question Why No Comparison? Lancer Ralliart vs RS.

I've been looking at the new Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart and I'm wondering why they are not even comaring it to the Subaru Impreza 2.5RS. They are within 3hp and 5 ft/lbs torque (RS being higher) of each other and has a 2.4l inline 4banger yet is not even remotly comapred to the RS. The price tag is around $18,000 so what's the dealio yo? Is this car just an unbelievable amount of crap?

It has been compared to the Mazdaspeed Protegé and Ford SVT Focus.

If you want to read a review of the car click here --->http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....article_id=759

oh btw when I mean looking at I mean just looking at not looking to buy so don't get your panties in a twist.

It's not a bad car, but it's priced much too high for something with less power than the RS/OBS/TS, no AWD, and a shoddy interior.

well that sums it up.

i was gonna post "because they aren't two cars that are well compared to each other" but that would have been pretty much pointless

(they really arent though )

..other than they sound alike, sorta

OK. So to sum it up AWD cars cannot be compared to FWD or RWD cars?

If I remember correctly I read many many articles saying the RS interior was very cheap looking, well for the MY98-01 models at least.

the engines are very similar. if you want AWD and crappy paint, go w/ RS.

if you want FWD and good paint, go w/ RalliSport

dunno dude, there isn't that much difference

Everyone knows the lancer is faster without AWD drivetrain loss.

The RalliArt is what the OZ Rally Addition should have been in the first place. I fell in love with the Impreza and Lancer first through Gran Turismo, then from following the WRC. They were my two favorite cars. I remember driving to school everyday and passing a Subaru dealer with a Silver RS, '99 I believe, drooling over it. Then we finally get the Lancer here in the States and it looks...well...UGLY, and cheap. I couldn't believe what Mitsu did, that sold me on the Impreza.

I think the RalliArt edition can and should be compared to the current Impreza RS. They're both priced about the same, have similar specs, and target the same segment of the market. The fact that AWD isn't available shouldn't be a factor, it's simply an added bonus that Subarus offer.

Just my $.02

Yes but if your buying an RS then your not buying it for the interior, your buying it for the superior mechanics!

Like motortrend TV said "to criticise the Impreza for it's flimsy cup holder would be like criticising a prize boxer for having bad breath."

Fair enough, but the only reason I looked at Subaru when shopping for a car was the awd.

I was on the waiting list for a MINI. I wanted something that was fun to drive. The Impreza (an old fav) fit the bill. The fact that it had AWD sealed the deal but it wasn't my primary reason for buying the car.

If you surveyed Impreza owners I don't think the majority of them would list AWD as the #1 reason they bought the car.

While your running that survey, also ask Impreza owners whether they would've bought the car if it didn't have AWD.

I think the Ralliart is a pretty good little car. It is lighter then the Impreza so it should be faster, and maybe handle better too. It has variable valve timming called MIVEC (are you listening Subaru?). It isn't bad looking, except for that horrible wagon. I would take it over the Civic Si since it has a nice thing called torque. If you don't really need the AWD, the Ralliart is a serious competitor for the RS IMO.

Drive two 4WD/AWD Subarus, then drive a FWD Impreza L and tell me AWD isn't a major factor . I got rid of my Impreza L because it was FWD
