Post Detroit Region SCCA Auto-X Pictures are up

A local photographer took a bunch of pics at the last event (June 25th, Palace of Auburn Hills), and posted a few of them.
http://venkmanphoto.tripod.com

my car is the black 98RS (STS 171)
Frank (Marius) is the blue 99RS (STS 666)

if you were there and raced, he has more shots available.

P.S. the Viper shown on the last page was very slow. boooo.

yeah, between that and the fact that they were all manually scanned in I think, it wears a bit on the eyes.

Question

This may sound ignorant, but how do you put the numbers on your car? What type of material do you use? On the 666 Impreza, the numbers look good, but I'm guessing they are temporary. If I were to do Auto-x, I'd like to have nice looking numbers (which is a petty little thing-I know!), and I'd like to stay away from shoe polish on the windows or paper taped to the body (like the red corvette). Any tips on how that works?

Thanks-
Rich

Frank (666) has magnetic numbers. I've been hoping to buy some of those, but no vendors at any of the races I've been too.

as for my car, its just masking tape. works fine. and cheap. I bought a roll a few months back, and we've done 2-3 cars at each event with the same roll.

Ill be getting magnetic numbers eventually though.

You can make your own magnetic numbers for about $15. Try to find a big hobby/arts & crafts store, they should have magnetic material. The stuff I get comes in a rectangular box with a 12"x24" sheet magnet rolled up inside. Find your favorite font and trace it onto the material, cut it out, and paint it any color you want. Viola!
I made these.

Good luck

Fred,

heres the scoop:

STS was won by a guy in a 1991 BMW M3. Frank took second in his RS, I think the 200SX SE-R was 3rd, I was fourth I believe, but there was a guy in a Focus who was maybe a tick or two behind me. Not sure. Oh, and a Pontiac Grand Am. he he.

There was another RS (00MY, silver I think) racing in GStock, He was pretty fast, but I don't know his name.

That was it for Subaru representation.

Anyhow, Frank kicked my butt again. drats.
new tires for me, coming soon.

Thumbs up

Ryan,
That's pretty cool. What's the next autocross you guys are going to? I need to get out there and get more experience at it. I also need new tires. I'm thinking either the Kumho 712's or the Potenza 730's. What are you getting?

Fred - email frank (marius) he can tell you when the next Auto-x is, I believe it's this weekend at Lawrence Tech. if you need his address, email me offline.

I will be getting something pretty soft most likely (under 200 treadwear). My BFGs (360) are trash for auto-x.

Frank really loves his Kumhos, and he is very competitive with them. I may end up with those, or possibly the Yoko AVS Sports ($$$). 730 Potenzas are supposed to be good, but hard (300 treadwear) - but they'll be worlds better than the RE92s.

Ryan

THose are sharp, nice job. I guess frank's came from an A/C vent cover magnet kit from Home Depot, $8.

That's most likely what I'll do too.
