Thumbs up Houston Autocross Results!!

The return to the HPA (Houston Police Academy) was very interesting. The course was pretty much wide open with the majority of the cones near the finish. Due to delays and problems in the morning, the afternoon group didn't start running until after 3 p.m. Did I mention how stinking hot it was?! It was bad. The heat index had to be well over 100.

Sadly, only 3 Scoobys showed up. Me, Steve (AliBenn), and John (Subaru salesman from Gillman). Steve had his new Khumo 712s mounted on the front. John's RS was pretty slick looking. Leather, performance gauge pack, SPT short shifter, SPT strut brace, and rear diff. protector. John and I ran in GS while Steve stayed in STC. My buddy Derek came out and co-drove my car.

Times were pretty competitive between Steve and I and within our respective classes. John seemed to be adjusting to the car's handling.

I managed to pull out a second in GS with a time of 56.1 something. Did I mention that I'm still running the stock RE-92s? I can't wait to see what I can do with better tires! First place went to a very experienced driver in a Probe GT with race rubber. He got a 54 something! He was definitely hauling major tail.

Steve also managed to get second in STC. His best time was a 55 something. First place went to a Honda Civic (Boo!) that was lowered, with 16" Bolk wheels (knock-off Volk TE-37s), Yokohama A520s, header, exhaust, and a few other goodies. Times were very close in STC. I think Steve only missed first by a few tenths of a second!

Overall the day was pretty good, despite the incredibly miserable heat. Thank God there was some decent cloud cover and a good breeze. Hopefully the Porsche/BMW race coming up on the 15th will be much better. It's a night race!! That will be a blast! I should have the harness in by then. The hardware hasn't come in yet. I'm hoping today is the day. That is all. Thank you and good night.

Adam

Good job Adam. You'll have a lot of fun with race tires. Speaking of tires, why does Steve keep running different tires front and rear? He should get rid of those sorry RE-92s.
But you need to tell John that he shouldn't be running in GS. He should either be in DSP or one of the ST classes. Dealer installed options (all of which the SPT stuff is) aren't allowed in stock. But if the rest of the class doesn't care....

Yeah, we knew he wasn't legal, but apparently nobody told the tech guys. He should have at least been in STC with Steve. Steve is a unique character. We asked him about the tire thing. He said he couldn't afford a whole set of tires at one time. What I didn't understand is why he didn't stick with the AVSs! They are probably a better tire than the 712s. But, if that's what he wants to do, so be it. I'm sure Stacie and I will be having a few more discussions on the race tire issue. I'll keep you posted.
