Question WRX seats

Could someone post some picts of the seats in the US WRX. The ones I have seen haven't been that good.

TIA

i was thinkin about that ... removing/changing the seats may bring up some intersting liability questions now that the seats have air bags in them

Think of it this way..... would you replace a Momo racing wheel on you daily driver's SRS wheel?? Unless you're a moron who likes that "momo" logo on the wheel..... No... Because you NEED an airbag.... it saves lives... Same applies here.... Would you rather "look" cool and get some better "looking" seat (notice the keywords here) and take out the side airbags? Sorry safety comes before looks IMO.... I personally like the Seats... are they the best racing seats I ever seen? No would put a pair of Recaro's in there... but since I get SRS side airbags in these stock ones I'm leaving them in......

Notice I said "daily driver" if your'e gonan race more than you drive it you don't need an airbag.... so go for the seat swap

Just my two cents, but the new WRX seats are really, really comfortable.

Except for the lower cushion adjustment, they look exactly like slightly modifed versions of the RS seats. In other words...crap!!

I have a pic just like that on my site. The seats really grab your butt and hold you in place. Nice to get goosed by the car I guess

I am uploading about 100 pics to www.ImprezaRS.com/images/2001detroitautoshow/ that people can click through. I did not have time to rename them.

I also have a Q&A with pics on the SubeNews page, and a flash 3D production on the site, provided by Subaru.

the seats were a lot more supportive and not too big.. even for someone like me... which is a problem i have with the STi seats... they are too large and i dont fit well in them.

also.. the drivers seat is height adjustable... so now i REALLY like it...

interior gets high marks in my book. it was well thought out and looks good although i am sure many of you will change out the seats as a matter of preference anyway.

So far, its pretty much the looks that people are still having trouble with (In terms of people who have seen it, and even then alot of people have been converted) Am I right or am I right?

I asked for seat picts cause i was trying to get a better look at how I woud fit them. Having Earl Campbells/Bo Jacksons lower body kinda makes it hard to fit a hgh bolstered beat properly. I guess i had better stop doing those 300 lb. squats!

Hey, I took that pic above! Personally, I thought the new seats were pretty damn good. They are NOT full out racing seats, but the car is not a full race car either. If (or should I say when) I get the WRX, I won't replace the seats.

Looking at seats in a picture isn't going to help anyone much anyway (as far as feel is concerned). You will have to wait til you can sit in them to see if they are really going to work for you.

I looked the pics. Seems the show was a lot of fun. Hey I have that Japanese Impreza Magazine with the WRC on the cover! :-)

How come in the show they showed a Eurpean drivetrain on the display? (with UK spec wheels, brakes and seats).

As for the seats, first I thought we are getting crapy seats, but after reading reviews from those who have sat in them, I began to change my view.

My biggest problem with most of the car seats is that the head rest doesn't do much. Unlike those on the Volvo, in most of the car seats, the driver's head doesn't really rest on the head rest while driving. (at least for me). I thought the racing style seats seen in UK, AUS and Japanese WRX would support the head more.

How's the head rest on the US seats?

About the Euro drivetrain...I think they only have one of those. We saw the same thing at the Sydney Motor Show in November.. it was a bit wierd cause it was Left hand drive.

I, too, would like leather seats. But it isn't something that will cause me to lose any sleep. And since they offer them in Japan and Europe, maybe it will be a dealer option anyway?

I was in Detroit too, personally, I don't like the seat. The back side support is good. But the lumbar and thigh support are not there. I am 5foot10 165lb.

The seats in the WRX are worlds above the current RS. I wish my seats were as comfy, as bolsterous, and made with materials as nice as the seats in the WRX. Given the opportunity, I would switch seats in a second. Perfectly bolstered, and with the height adjustment I was able to perfect my position in the car. I'm 6'1", 170, FWIW.

Anyone lift the hood? That's light...

Etam, are you sure you sat in the WRX sedan? The WRX at the LA auto show had the seats I refer to above. The thigh bolsters were in "full effect". There are NO thigh bolsters in the stock RS seats. The WRX thigh bolsters have to be at least two inches high, and the foam is reasonably firm (compared to the sponges stuff in the RS seats). Too bad I don't have the extra $5000.

Julian

If anyone wants to sell WRX seats, I'll be buying...

Judging by the look of those seats, I think that it's been a "compromise" design,, sort of like a cross between a race seat and a soft cushy seat, and also it has side air bags. I personally like the seat we got here, with the integrated head rest.. very supportive. I'm glad ubaru of Aus decided to do without side bags in favour of the great seats.

Julian, actually, I sat in the WRX wagon seat (the photo one) and I think they are the same as WRX sedan. For the best seat in the Detroit car show, I would take the S2000 and then the sport Miata. My friend's Recaro SRD is good too.

Just FYI:

Recaro makes aftermarket seats for VW-Audi-Seat vehicles with the side airbags in them. Problem is that Recaro doesn't sell them in North America for liability reasons, and no delivery company will ship them due to the airbags. They contain explosives. I guess they are afraid of a Castaway-type crash.
