Post WRX USA vs S4 Musings......

Since it is all speculation right now anyway..

Audi S4 = 3500lbs+ / 250hp = 14.00lbs per hp
WRX USA = 3000lbs- / 215hp = 14.00lbs per hp

Torque is unknown to me, but i would imagine both engines have similar hp to torque ratios.

Assuming the worst, with similar gearing, the 2 cars should be pretty similar in acceleration. The S4 does a 14.1-14.2 ¼ mile.

Jump the WRX to 247hp and that is 12.14lbs per hp and sub 14 second ¼ mile.???

Just pissing around when I should be work.

Yeah, that's about right.

Post

Torque is probably not going to be on par ... the WRX is a high pressure turbo 4, the S4 is a biturbo 6 monster.

But consider tuning potential ... the S4 is essentially an already "STi'd" car ... maxed out within limits of reliability. On the other hand, it is not unknown to see 40hp gains on turbo Imprezas just from a cat-back system.

Should be an interesting race.

The S4 is not maxed out buy any means. There are several "chip" companies that can give you 300+ hp out the box for about $500-600. This is not even having an exhaust. There are supposidly a couple 400+ hp S4's running around.

Audi RS4 avant - same engine as the S4, chipped, exhaust, etc. = 380hp.

I don't think I've ever seen any modified STi imprezas over 350hp, and these have had a lot of internal engine work.

Jaimak, while I think the RS4 Avant is da bomb as far as estates go. That thing comes in at 4000lbs! It cannot hang with any STi WRX period. It's not about hp number sometimes....it's about the overall dynamics of the car package. I'd take a much cheaper STi WRX estate anytime over an RS4. Why? cus I want that STi seats daggamit!

I actually saw an S4 that I was told was modified to over 400hp. This was down at the Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta the other week. It was the bright blue color, and the turbos under the hood were huge. Lots of custom looking bits under the hood, red wiring, etc. Huge brakes too, looked like Ronal wheels maybe.

S4s are awesome RS4 Avants are really awesome. Too bad S4s are hard to get and cost like 12k more than the WRX is supposed to be.

JaiMak - The RS4 has a lot more than just a chip upgrade over the S4.

The turbos are uprated, the intercooler is uprated, the fuel injectors are uprated, new cylinder heads, new intake, 2-stage catalytic converter, and an entirely new engine managment system (chip AND board).

Make mine black.

Um, this probably isn't the right place for this, but I'm selling my 2000 S4 sedan this Fall. Anyone want it?

Lack of parking. Had a Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Impreza and the S4. Sold the Grand Cherokee, selling the S4, ordered 2001 S4 AVANT! Problem solved. I'll be able to haul fertilizer from Home Depot really fast.

The Avant arrives late November.

There are a few people in the Audi club that said that they were ging to sell their S4 when they take delivery of the Avant. There is also a few people in my area. I just may have to scoop one of them for myself.

I was not meaning to really compare the two cars, but instead associate the acceleration of the S4 to something similar to expect out of the turbo impreza.

I was also talking stock vs stock (lovejoy), not modified vs modified.

AdamXX (username) has a bright Yellow lowered S4 with some nice looking 18" wheels along with his homebuilt turbo RS. He also has a S2000 which i now own his factory tires and wheels.
