Question Are going to drop your current RS to buy the next gen RS?

Just curious to see how many people are going to actually sell their 2.5RS's when the next gen comes out (turbo'ed), to move "up". I doubt I will. I figure the value of a N/A RS will drop like a rock when the turbo's come out, and my car will be worth diddly on a trade in. Plus I have developed an attachment to my current car.
What are you people planning on doing?

am keeping it....

but it's not like I could afford to drop mine and get a new one...

but.. from what I've seen in the pics.. it would take alot to get me to drop my car for that one.. love how the current RS's look.

Depends on the look and price of the new Impreza. If it no more than $27K(sticker) AND it looks better than my current Impreza - yes. The trade in value of my Impreza is high and if I sell it myself, the resale is also quite good(maybe too good that buyers will opt for a new N/A Impreza RS).

I am currently leaning towards keeping the vehicle I have. Of course, things could change once we see exactly what the new model brings to the table. At the moment, most ideas are just supposition.

Differences that would make me consider buying the new model:

1) Uprated clutch and transmission
2) Significantly improved suspension
3) Wider track and wider tires
4) Cost
5) Styling

It all depends on whether I can upgrade my current car for less than a new car. Plus, the low end torque of a 2.5 versus a 2.0 is tempting. I've heard many good things about turbocharging, and now - supercharging - our engines.

I think we are on the verge of reaching 220 horsepower with a naturally aspirated 2.5 liter motor. If we can work out the cams and header issues I believe it is attainable (note: in addition to other N/A mods such as intake, free flowing exhaust, bored throttle body, etc). Shiv's Tec II package will be instrumental in helping achieve the goal of 220 N/A horsepower. In addition, the Tec II will grow with one's continued mods to the car.

Another option is to keep my 99 and have my wife buy the 2001.

Thumbs up

If the body isn't butt ugly, and the drivetrain is the same tried and true turbo that everybody else get's...
SOLD!
Hey, I wanted the turbo from the beginning and only bought the RS because it was the closest I could get. When the real McCoy shows up I'm getting one.
But let's not try to turn this thread into a "But MY99 turbo is going to be faster than the MY02 turbo because it's got better low end torque". We've heard both sides of the coin a thousand times already. And you're not going to change my mind.

Yeah, I know what would change your mind Travis. How about a turbo 5 door? C'mon! Admit it! You know you can't resist...

I'm waffling. More definitive info about the turbo is needed before I'll decide.

A while ago I was like Travis and was ready to trade-up no matter what.

But 2.5L is a good place to start on a nice project. If I keep the car I'll have to get over my tendency to switch cars every 2-3 years.

The existing car stays, but I'm also gettin the next-gen (unless it's as ugly as a couple of the poorly Photoshopped pics). The current car is way too cool to give up.

I think I'm with Travis on this one. I bought the RS because it was the closest I could get to a WRX and now its just over a year old and suddenly I can get (something close to) the real thing? I think I'll have to take the hit on resale just to have the new turbo. I may just give the RS to my girlfriend if she can help pay the payments too. She needs a good car and the RS feels like it will go forever. Her mom actually has 250k on a 1.8 XT.
