Post 2002 WRX and Detroit auto show pics

I haven't really typed up any content on the new WRX (yet), but I have added a bunch of pictures taken while out to Detroit this week. Take a look.

BTW, the WRX seems to be a fantastic bargain. Standing around the cars and listening to others comment little astonishments was interesting, too.

Thanks for the pictures. What was your impression of the Mini Cooper? Personally, I like the styling and would consider it as my second car or maybe set it up for Auto-X.

Steve-- first of all you and your younger brother truly have a scary resemblance.

Anyway, in this picture I am insanely curious if anyone took a good look at the tranny bellhousing, and if it appeared to be a regular 99+ 7 bolt tranny or if it was 11 bolt.

Im upset that the MINI will be $18,000 base MSRP (Note: Thats NOT the supercharged Cooper S either!)

At that price, its just not enough car... (No really, its not enough! )

omg, I didn't know Mazda was going to have a new concept at the show! That's really great, hopefully a worthy successor to the past three 'sevens. 280bhp @ 8500 rpm? YUMMY.

Scary resemblance? Nah, I am MUCH more handsome than Steve Hehe

I was a little skeptical on the looks of the WRX from the early pictures, but in person it really is a sharp car. The silver sedan at the autoshow looked sweet IMHO, and it really shows off the lines of the car. People don't like the headlights, but spend time around the car and they become a non-issue.

What would you rather have...another 165 horsepower car with the looks of the 99 RS, or a 227 horsepower car with the looks of the new WRX? I know where my money is going.

Thanks for the pics. I'm glad you took a good close up of the wing. It looks a lot cooler than I thought it did. I also have to get that gauge pack.

Can't wait to see it on Wednesday (when I'm heading to Detroit).

ColinL ~~ Sorry, we couldn't get too close to that display. Mike Whelan didn't have much information on the tranny unfortunately (other than gear ratios). IMO it looks like the same housing, but I could be wrong. What surprised me was how SMALL the 2.0L pistons looked compared to the ones in my 2.5.

Kevin and I do look alike I guess. Our other brother looks like he might be adopted, though.

That's it on the pictures for Lagging. We had some trouble with them this morning and I think I have them all fixed up. My digital camera is old and sucks.

I'm really starting to like the new WRX. BUT, when I got home and saw my "boxy" MY98, I thought, "DAMN my car rocks!" hehe
