Default Consumer Reports' reliability verdict for Baja

Poor. This is CR's worst possible rating for any category.

I just wanted to forewarn any future buyers of the Baja or people that might consider it...

I wonder what their rating was based on?
Maby the fact that you cannot fit a sheet of plywood in it.
Isn't the BAJA built just like another very popular, reliable Subaru product?
We have had our BAJA for about six months,we put over 14,000 miles on it already. It's been in the shop for oil changes, thats it.
No problems at all!
Their is no other car out there that can do what our BAJA can do for us,and I am glad to say no other car that I would rather have.

Hmm... what issue is this in?

Back in May they gave the Baja a very good review.

They use consumer surveys to compile thier data on reliability. One of the least valid ways if you ask me. And why is this the first time we have heard about poor reliability? No one here or anywhere else have complained about anything other than the Baja itself. Othewise it seems to be a very sound vehicle.

Go look at the new 2004 Car buyers' guide/preview guide. They have it at all the book stores and supermarkets.

Whoever said is this thing just as reliable as any other Subaru product--the baja isn't made in Japan, so the build quality takes a back seat being built here.

I can't quote them directly since I only read it at the store and didn't buy it.

They said something like, "First year reliability for the Baja has been disappointing."

The Impreza had two different reliability verdicts. The one for the WRX base model got a 3 of 5 points or white dot relibility rating which means it has average reliability. The non-turbo Imprezas like 2.5RS, TS, received 4 of 5 points; much better than average relibility. And to reiterate the one on the Baja, 1 of 5 points; poor reliability (their worst rating).

There are Toyotas built here in the USA and they score very highly with consumer reports.
So, who are the clowns working in the plant in Indiana?
Common,Give me some names!
Just kidding JDMSubaru, but I think something is wrong with
the CR findings.
Well time will tell.

The CR findings is funny when JD Power and assoc. found the 03 baja as the most popular small pickup out there. And that is raited from customer satisifaction of owners. I found this in the fall edition of the Subaru Drive Magazine:
Subaru Drive Fall 2003

Both the Strategic Vision 2003 Total Quality Index™ (TQI) and the J.D. Power 2003 Initial Quality Study (IQS) reflect an excellent showing by Subaru Baja. It was rated tops in the compact pickup segment by Strategic Vision’s TQI, and J.D. Power and Associates lists it as one of the top three vehicles in the compact pickup segment as a result of its scores in the IQS. Strategic Vision and J.D. Power are independent automobile-industry research firms headquartered in California – Strategic Vision in San Diego and J.D. Power in Westlake Village.

J.D. Power and Associates is a no name and no credibility publishing. They are an absolute joke like that one knock off magazine called Consumers' Digest (trying to use the name Consumer's Reports and Reader's Digest together I guess?).

I can't imagine what kind of chump it takes to read either of those two magazines. I can just profile them right now--they believe that Accupressure and Chriopractors are equivalent to M.D.'s and they are also the kind of people that fall sucker for sales pitches and scams all the time. That kind of person probably pours STP in their engine too. OMG this is too funny.

Hopefully some of our brighter members out there know better than to believe their findings and awards. How can you take J.D. Powers seriously? Have some of you guys seen the accolades they've awarded? They gave the Kia Sedona, Hyundai Sonata, and Chevy Cavalier awards for 'excellence' and 'quality' in the past.

Even if the Baja truly did score high in their phony/rigged (or paid off) customer satisfaction survey, what in the hell does that relate to its reliability? How does that make it a reliable car?

Bajanut, I lambast you for believing such bull****, let alone reading it. Go take your Gingo Biloba [sic] or whatever they call it and refrain from posting nonsense.

P.S., the word rated does not have an "i" in it. Also, how old are you to mis-spell worse than a 2nd grader?

Wow, take it easy, JDMSubaru I don't think you needed to lambast others like that. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, aren't we? This is a small community wanting to know a thing or two about Subaru we all like/drive. I think we can present our opinions and views without pointing fingers. After all, we all have one thing in common - we love our Subaru!

PS - everybody makes typos.

JDMSubaru. I am extreamly ofended by your post. I was just trying to point out the irony between the 2. How the JD Power and the Consumer Reports are so optsoit. I also believe that the JD Power is a joke, but every once in a while they will actually give a truethful raiting, yes it may be paid off or something but that is not always the point. I also believe that CR is extrealy bias. They have been raiting the subaru baja highly and porly. They just can't make up their minds weather or not they like the car.

Thank you Hatake, not everyone is the perfict speller you are and make typo's now and then. Is my opinion less important if I can't spell as well as you? I say no.

Fisrt year reliability is normally the worst for new models, and the Baja is mostly that. Despite being buiult on the Legover chasis, its still drastically different.

The second year will be a better indication after they worked out the little bugs.

Don't feed the troll.

Anyway, We have had ZERO problems with Baja's at my work. That is correct. ZERO! Only oil change's and basic maintenance. ZERO out of approx 30 car's being serviced ZERO problem's.

We're well over 15k miles, I'd say 17k by now and 100% trouble free. Dont know what JD Powers has been smokin! We drive this thing all over the place. We went from NJ to MN and back, we go everywhere in it, off-road, on-road, caarried heavy loads many times including a full size washer and dryer in the back, a Dodge 318 V8 motor, and tons of camping gear over the summer.

I'd say this thing is pretty much indestructible!

Oh and JDMSubaru? SHUT UP.

Everyone,

It seemed JDMSubaru is the same old character he was a few months ago. Please don't mind him. I do not think he can help it. I actually back out a tire deal with him because of his wonderful personality, decency (lack of) and common sense. He does however know the English lanugage. See below about his own ability to spell (e-mail quoted):

Now I am sorry, did he have a problem with someone's spelling?

First bad mark on an otherwise perfectly (or nearly so) behaved forum. AND the last one I hope.
