Have a Nice Day? Helmets do work-but....

Today I was driving into work on the west side Highway southbound--towards Manhatten.
There was a break in traffic ahead of me of about 13-15 car lenghts except for one GS400.

Out of the blue---debris comes flying over the divider wall as well as a BODY--
This guy whacks his head on the wall and sends his body twirling into the air and comes down in the left lane and rolled, towards oncoming traffic, about six or seven times--right at me me specificallty since I was in the left lane!
The Lexus was in the middle lane and slammed on the brakes HARD!!!-tires skreeching and smoking--everything went into slow motion at this moment. I hit the brakes and dropped into third. Then moved into the center lane cause a jetta came up in the right lane.
As I was driving up to the body, all I could think was--holy sh** he's dead--holy sh** he's dead--holy sh** he's dead--Don't hit him dont him dont him--Then, all of a sudden he jumps up His visor was up. He looked like a deer in headlights--Eyes wide open and stunned as to what just happened. He ran for the wall and jumped back to the other side as I passed him. There was a toyota tercel in the left lane on my side of the HWY who was backing up to help. But there also was a bigass toyota land crusier comin up and was not expecting someone backing up and nearly nailed him.

I did not stop--terrible as that may sound--but I figured I could have caused more problems like the tercel almost did.

That had to be one of the most terrifing things I have ever seen. I am so thankful that I was far enough back when it happened that he didn't come flying over as I was going past him--What a scary thought!!! and that he got up and hopped over the wall.
I hope that he really is ok and his reaction
was not just an adreanalin rush.

That experience has reenforced my feeling of NEVER wanting to learn to ride a motorcycle. Not that I don't think that it would be a blast but, I would probably be to scared that I might lose focus for a second or some moron would not see me passing him a slam me into a wall.

I know this wasn't scooby related, but I just wanted to remind people to always watch for bikes--as you all know they are very easy to not see if they are in your blind spot. So guys and gals just keepo your Eyes peeled.

Dan

Have a Nice Day?

HOLY COW! That is a freaky story. That is one lucky dude. He's gotta be hurtin' somehow, but that adrenaline rush will do wonders for you. I bet it's gonna take you a while to settle down also. I know I'd have trouble sleeping for a while, just from the replays going on in my head.

I think you did the right thing by not stopping. You did a good heads up job of driving, avoided running over the guy, and had the presence of mind to not add to the chaos on the freeway by causing another accident. You weren't really a witness to whatever happened to cause the accident, so you wouldn't have been any help to the police. And if you're not a medic or something, you're just going to get in the way.

Keep us posted if you see something in the paper about it. I'm curious what happened.

Rich

I have not found anything on the newslinks here at work, but havent searched everywhere. Thanks for the good words, that is what I figured. I would probably cause more anxiety to the athorities then good.
