Default muffler du du du

i recently purchased a muffler for my 97 2.2 and whenever i let off the gas it does not sound nice it goes boom boom boom and it kind of sounds like it is backfireing but it is not why the heck does it do that

because it is? unburnt fuel is hitting the hot cats and burning. did you get a cat back? if so, they prolly didn't replace the resonator, so you are just hearing it now.

Dude, do a search on backfire, would you?

Once you do that and understand the concept u'll know that changing the cat won't help that. The subaru H4 runs rich most if not all the time, hences if it runs rich it means that all the fuel that is left unburned, flows down the pipes into the catalytic converter, then ignites because of the temps of the cat, thus causing the "pops" you hear.

you can fix this by adding a resonator in ur cat-back preferably close after the cat. or putting the stock exhaust back on.

i like my cars backfiring like no tomorrow.
