Question Problem with Backfiring?

I was wondering if anybody else has experienced backfiring or any other loud pops/bangs coming form the area of the exhaust manifolds. I have a MY00 2.5 RS and I have been getting this load pop sound from the engine since I bought the car new in August 2000, not all the time but just every once in a while. The car as 26,000 miles on it now. I don't get a CE light or anything, and it seems to happen while coasting down or if I rev the engine a little while sitting still.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,

Michael
