Have a Nice Day? Don't use 215/60/16's on your Legacy

My father liked the tread pattern on my stock Forester XT tires, so I decided just to throw them on his 99 Legacy GT sedan as a gift...

Well to sum things up, they rub on the strut in the rear. I'm going to try some 5/16" spacers to get them to stop rubbing.

Any other ideas on how to keep them from rubbing?

Bry.

Ugh. It's silly to add spacers to cram in a tire that was never meant to fit the GT.

Those are 1.3" inches bigger in diameter than stock. That's pretty huge.

Even if you do manage to squeeze them in there, you'll be in a world of trouble if you have to run the spare tire for very long.

Also, with spacers that wide, you're going to have a whole lot of tire sitting right under the fender lip vertically; forget rubbing, the fender will bottom on the tire, and one good whack, especially in the rear, over a speed bump or something, and that fender will be toast......

It's really, really, really not a good idea.....

Wouldn't be so bad if the Legacy was a BD/BG Outback since that's very close to stock size. Alas, they're too large to ever fit well in GT wheel wells with GT struts. You could replace his suspension with OB pieces... the OB GR2s are available now.
