Default B&M: Short Throw Shifter (03 WRX) Review

B&M: Short Throw Shifter (03 WRX) Review:
part # 45150
*************************************

note: picture doesn't show Shift knob, bushings, bearing shaft, lube, and 2 B&M Stickers that come with the kit.

Description:
B&M Ripper Shifter is a CAD-designed and engineered direct bolt-in replacement shifter for your import vehicle. The only tools you need to install it are a 10mm and a 12mm wrench! Threaded for use with both factory and aftermarket knobs, the Ripper features a counter-balanced bottom-end for more precise shifts. Extremely tight tolerances and special, long-lasting high performance red silicone bushings make the Ripper the smoothest, most accurate shifter available. The CNC machined, super tough billet alloy steel straight shaft provides the absolute best leverage and reduces shift throw by over 2"! The Ripper is also highly polished and show-chromed to provide the best in beauty and wear. And B&M offers you a lifetime warranty - if you ever break the shifter, B&M will replace it. If performance means everything to you, let B&M give the Ripper!
*************************************

So anyway.. the instructions said it will take 1 hours if we follow the instructions carefully.............

We managed to take off the handbrake/shifter boot housing very quickly (Just pull as hard as you can right? No..). We unscrewed the bolt/nut off the stock shifter and pulled it out, Then replaced it with the B&M Shifter (after bashing it 100 times with a rubber mallet), B&M Replacement Bearing Shaft, and B&M's thicker Nylon spacers. The bearing shaft and nylon spacers were carefully lubed before installed (thanks Ken @ total)

note: do not tighten bolt/nut too tight, snug is good. Too tight will lead to premature wear of the nylon spacers and YOU using too much strength to shift. ^_^

If you didnt notice, the square bracket that sits around the rubber housing for the shifter is missing. Reason? Putting my shifter into 1st gear bashed into the metal frame.... Reason for metal frame to be there? To hold the rubber housing down so water doesnt seep in from under the car. (Thanks tora).

So what did we do?...

credit to tora for telling me to saw/dremel the frame to fit. (with anger!)

Yes! One more tab...

I got tired so...

this is what cousins are for (subaruben).

Afterwards:

Tested the shifter out (with stock shiftknob, it fits).. Short shift definately feels more raw/rough. Shift distance feels like the STI's stock shifter, a lot crisper... a lot more definate.

Weaknesses i guess is it's price. It's $250 at Mopac. It's $100USD more expensive than Kartboy, but then again.. it comes as a kit, and it's quality is better, and comes with a life time warranty.. like I'll ever snap it.

Do you guys think it would be a cool idea to make a sticky thread section of some sort for all our DIY installs? It would be neat to have our own collection of it.

Edit: i'll take more pics of this one to make it more complete
