Question used subaru prices

i'm looking into getting a used rs or outback sport wagon for a winter car - got a few questions:
-what was the first year for the rs ('98?) and outback sport ('97?)?
-what are the current prices for each car that was sold in its first production year? (assume average miles, good condition, 5speed)
-was the outback sport offered with a 2.5L engine?

Hi,
I've got a 98 OBS, and no, it wasn't offered with the 2.5 engine, it's a 2.2, with 137 horsepower, the 99 got a little more hp.

I've seen a 98 listed at right around 15K, which tells me they hold their resale value pretty well...I paid 17K brand spanking new.

It's a great car, and if you hunt around, you'll find a bargain, I'm sure.

Very reliable, excellent in the snow, and practical to haul dogs and hockey equipment.

Hey Flea, still hauling those hockey playing dogs, huh? I hear getting them off the ice for line changes is tough. And they're constantly being whistled for ruffing! (I should be banned from the board for that).

monkey_truck!, you should find lots of the info you're looking for at edmunds.com.

The rumor is that the OBS will have the 2.5L in 2002.

I saw a '98RS (black) at Colonial Subaru in Danbury, CT today for $18,900. That's where I got my car and I'd urge anyone NOT to do business with them. What a bunch of effin' a$$h013s. Perhaps go to another dealer and have them do a search to find it. -But I'm not bitter-

right, i checked edmunds and kelly blue book. i just wanted to get a feel for the "real" world price - no one is selling their sooby on the for sale board. according to those 2 sites, pricing is about $10K for a used '97 outback sport.

yeah, forget about finding a used OBS for $10K. They simply don't exist unless they have amazing amounts of mileage on them. I can't even find them very easily around here.

That said, I have a line on a '95 1.8L wagon in CT for $5K that I'm going to go look at on Sunday.

ok, i checked edmunds again (i was a little off):
'97 outback sport = $12.2K
'98 rs = $14.6K
'95 outback = $10.5K
'96 outback = $13.1K
hmmm, doesn't look like i'll get my winter car this year. perhaps next year the value will decrease with the debut of new bodystyles. maybe i'll grab an rs from someone getting a wrx.
at these prices, i might as well buy new!

$10,000 for a OBS!?!? Dream on! I just bought a 1995 Impreza L 2.2l in December for $9,500 and it had 44K on it. The OBS's here are still up in the $15 grand range.
