Default Xmas Meet: Revised

I'm not assuming the role of organizer for this event. I'm just suggesting something.

Today, i was having tea ("Yum Cha") with my grandma at King Ford Restuarant (Ging ***) on #3 and Westminister in Richmond. They have a special on monday to thursday: 1 Free deep fried crab claw for all customers. Also, they have $9.90 on selected side dishes.

The restaurant is quite huge and they have several private rooms, which can be reserved. Anyone been there before? I've been there many times for lunch and it's pretty good.

What do you guys think?

Good idea BUT, one big problem with Richmond is that the cops are very hard on people with modified cars, especially you of Asian decent. So, perhaps somewhere outside of Richmond may be better? I'm willing to go as I drive a family wagon and don't attract much attention from coppers....but other members may not be willing.

i don't think cops are gonna drag us out of the restaurant to show em what's under the hood, the concern is while we are driving around in Richmond - we are particularly weary of cops when we are driving as a line of 4-5 Imprezas or more...

Its not really singling out when there is a pack of like say 5-6 of the same cars (and another few packs not too far behind) in a tight line rolling around richmond (some with loud exhausts) it just isn't too bright of an idea.

If we are going Richmond maybe something on Steveston as it is a little more out of the way. Other than that I would say Burnaby or Van-city would be the most central places to meet.

Here's a suggestion - Apollo Hobbies in Burnaby used to have a slot car track upstairs (not the tiny toys-r-us ones). I think one of the tracks even sports "rally" scenery. The slot cars are not "rigidly" tied to the track - rather they are held by weak magnets. End result?

It' s more than just "squeeze" the trigger and go. If you don't brake or control the throttle much, you'll slide right off the track. I did it for a birthday party once and it was a blast.

We could do a meet in Apollo Hobbies' dedicated parking lot, and go upstairs to race slot cars (maybe they have subaru slot cars by now). The parking lot is visible from the slot car track room as well.

just gauging interest..

I have no interest in sipping bubble tea with you guys, but I'd do the slot car thing in a second.

That's a cool idea, but usually how long does it take to entertain one playing with slot cars? We could perhaps play some slot cars and then grab something to eat? I believe that's similar to last year's Christmas Meet - which was dinner and then arcade.

My vote for having it in Burnaby or Vancouver. Richmond is pretty out of the way for us ppl in Coquitlam and eastward.

OR, how about going to TBC indoor go-karts and having it out with each other on the little track. All you smaller folks will have a good advantage against us big dummies.

Slot cars sounds good too....then we could go to Milestones or Earls or something down the road on Lougheed.

Thumbs up for this idea. But I'm unfamiliar with the TBC go-karts, where is it and any idea on price?

What I can think of is Sammy J Peppers on Kingsway right across from Metrotown in Burnaby. With decent parking and pretty good food.

Last I checked they don't take reservations on Fridays or Weekends. Cactus Club doesn't as well.
