Post 911 what? I walked one down!!!

I could not believe it!
I really expected to be smoked.
I know it was not a turbo, but it was the newer rounder body style. The situation was a long left hand sweeping road where the right lane ends. The 911 came out of nowhere from behind me then passed in the right lane and slowed down towards my speed. I downshifted to 3rd and turned off my A/C and was at 5500 rpm waiting for him to go, just to see if i could keep up with him. I had like 80 feet from him to me when he started moving. I shifted to 4th and wound it out. By the time we were at 90 I was like 15 feet to him, then I backed off cause I knew their was an intersection coming up. At the light i was taking a right turn and he gave me 2 short beeps and a wave in return to my wave.
I need to look up the spec on a 911 now hehe.
I think maybe he thought he wouldnt need to downshift or something?
BTW I have a 2k RS with a prodrive setup and a 5$ intake.

hehe i checked the specs. 280 hp?
I know he was racing, so I think I was lucky enough to find the worst 911 driver in history.
Owell. Its all about the rush.

Well, I do know that the non-turbos aren't that fast really. I've kept up with one in my old turbo Volvo (165hp + a few from bad exhaust and cold-air intake) pretty easily, though it was an older one.

You're probably right the he just didn't downshift, though.

At least he was cool about it (beeps). Had to add the "I slowed down for the intersection" to keep the jury happy eh?

Cool story.

Non turbo's aren't that fast?? Huh?? a 911 Carrera, puts out 300HP N/A. Please don't try and say that you kept up to a Porsche....This is even worse than the Ducati thread.

Nah, I don't think it had NOS. It was probably similar to these tricycles.

You've got a better chance of seeing god than beating a 911 in a race. Even if it is N/A.

I think the Ducati thread was worse, since there might only be a handful of are street legal cars anywhere in the world that could beat a bike

and if the Porche was in 5th or 6th then it'd be pretty easy to keep up with in town

Cool

I find that story a bit hard to believe! My friend Amy let's me drive her 1997 911 Targa Tiptronic! I will tell you right now that I have smoked alot of cars with it and to tell you the truth a 2.5RS doesn't stand a chance against one! Unless you are turbo charged!
By the way, a 911 is a truly wonderful car to drive!

Maybe it was an old 911 with a really nice 993 body kit.
Don't laugh, it is done. You can, for about 8-10G, take an early or mid-seventies 911 and update the body to a Carrera(964) or 993 body style. This probrably adds some weight, and the early Porsches were only running around with between 2 and 3 liters. If someone put one of those kits on an unmodified early 2.0 T motor, they only have 110hp, if they did it to a 912, which is a 911 chassis with a the old pushrod VW motor, they have even less.

I doubt someone would do $10K worth of body work without at least getting the motor up to 230HP, but it is possible. BTW Porshe gearboxes up to about 86 are really tough to shift, so there is a good chance that guy blew a shift.

I have a 1971 911 with a 160HP 2.0 liter, but the car weighs less than 2300lbs. It is definately qicker than my 2000RS.

so whats the tally this week? one saleen mustang, one duccati, and one 911.. damn Subaru made one hell of a 2.5 for the U.S. Its no wonder we dont have a WRX over here! We dont even need it! Maybe they should scrap the 2001 turbo.. seems our little stock cars are all ready too fast!

I want to know why as soon as someone posts anything about winning or keeping up with a faster car people jump on them to discredit them.
I raced a 911. I gained on him. Why can you not accept that. I know he did something wrong or his car was not as it appeared to be. YOu dont need to outright call me a liar.
I lose to new preludes at the drag strip, but i dont post that cause it is not interesting.
Keeping up with a 911 is interesting.

i'll tell you why we won't accept it. your RS is not even close to being as fast as a 911. get it through your thick skull, slapnuts.

Ok, ive kept my mouth shut long enough on these instances. Bump909, there's no need for name calling. I was going to help you out and let you know where your brother could get the work done to his.... his....truck(yuk). But your ignorance doesnt justify the knowledge i would have present you with.

Secondly (rant mode totally on) some of the people on this board have no clue what they are talking about, especially when they werent there to see what really happened. If you werent there to see it, you cant comment on it--End Of Story!

third: Why is it that some people find it soooooo hard to believe that there are really good drivers and really bad drivers? Here's a little tidbit of info for you people. Before i swapped in the japanese spec twin turbo motor into my 89 Supra non-turbo, i raced a couple of people. Now mind you this car was 200hp non-turbo with 203lbs of torque. 0-60 in maybe and i mean maybe 7.0 seconds. Fast? not hardly. I red light raced a 1998 Z28 6spd with the 305hp motor. Now this car should have made me look like i was going backwards but to tell you the truth, i holeshotted him so bad he didnt know what hit him. we raced to 60mph,which by that time he was reeling me in hard. And that was only one instance, ive beat much faster/higher hp/trq/ cars besides that one. I'm going way out on a limb here and saying that i'm prob one of the best drivers in the area this side of a race car. If anyone does not believe me i live in Upstate NY near Albany, and will demonstrate for anyone who wishes in any car.
Man i hate to be like this but some people "just cant get it through they're thick skull" that there are terrible drivers and there are great drivers. The guy in the Porsche prob was just a terrible yuppie driver that thought he was Nigel Manson or other. Sheesh people. Sorry. Rant mode off.

Alright... Alright... enough with the insults... I have seen many drivers that have phenominal cars that can't drive them. Nobody else was there, so just take his word for it.

Hey, all I said is that the story was hard to believe, I never said it couldn't happen!

Fact: If both drivers were of equal skill, and we kept our attention on the cars themselves......The 911 is faster, hands down!

If anyone can argue this fact, please do so....

Note: This point will be based on a later model 911.

hey, any car can beat anycar. Hell, a Geo Metro can beat a Dodge Viper, or even a pro stock racer on the strip. It's all down to the driver, so yes, he coulda hung with a 911, and he prolly did, so can it.

Okay I think maybe it was an 89ish 911 as i looked at the specs for them:
Power 214 @ 5900
Torque 195 @ 4800
quarter in 14.7 0-60 in 6.0
If I was in my gear, and he was below powerband I could easy pull on this guy.]
Bump909 grow up.
Exactly the attitude I was questioning.
