Cool Saw my first "customized" PT Cruiser

This morning I saw my first "customized" PT Cruiser. It was black and it looked like it had 17" Advan wheels w/low profile tires. He put a rear wing on it that actually looked pretty cool. The sad thing was that he put a flame job on it. I don't mind a "good" flame job if done right on a car that resembles a hot rod, but this flame job looked like it was made out of decals. Ickkkk. All of his windows were tinted really dark so it did look like a sedan delivery as they originally intended. Other than the flame job it looked cool.

I seen a new blue one, the other day, and it had 17" 5 star chrome wheels on it. I was told you can get the wheels with the Pt Cruiser.

I want one !!!!

Cool

My dad loves those cars. he told me he'd pay the difference if I traded the RS in for one ... I do admit they are really sweet ... If Benz made it (yeah they kinda do) my dad would have been the first to sign up, and buy me one too!!!!!

If they had a little more power I might consider one. they are way to underpowered.

Thumbs down

I thought I liked them at first. The retro design is funky, and they're nothing close to big, clunky, road-clogging SUVs/minivans. A good alternative.

But when you get next to one...ugh. They are WAY too high...and the hybrid look just doesn't wash for me. If the roof were a little lower and the car a little less new-age and a little more authentic to the period it's trying to emulate, I might like them. But as it stands...no thanks.

Haven't seen a modded one yet though. Bet they'd look better.

everyone i've talked to say they are ugly but really like them. i bet if they stay this popular they come out w/ a pepped up version maybe w/ a v-8 or a supercharged motor... that would be cool!

Makes you wonder why he didn't just wait a year at the most to buy the GT Cruiser when it is released. Then there would have been no need to add those parts to begin with.

Cool

Actually, the PT Cruiser shares only the basic platform structure with the Neon. The rest is completely different. They had originally thought of just using a Neon suspension but it wasn't quite what they needed for the vehicle.

Yes, supposedly the GT Cruiser is supposed to come out next year with an optional turbo that will put it up to about 220HP.

Cool

Word has it that're coming out with a supercharged version possibly with AWD. The original concept car had AWD.

The one concept design I saw of the GT Cruiser was more retro then the GT. It actually had running boards to it. The front bumper was color matched to the rest of the car and more stylish. The car came with 17in rims (possibly 18's) and it also had a turbo 2.4L (I think thats the right displacement). If they do make a stronger AWD model they will attract more buyers. Then again they will also charge even more. I did see on TV the other day a price qoute for the new PT Cruiser and it said actual price and then the price due to limited numbers that the NTSB had to pay in order to get some for testing. They paid $10K over sticker. Screw that! It at least started out as a nice idea.

I am skeptical about this. My brother is a chrysler mechanic and has already worked on some of these. He cannot imagine them trying to wedge even a turbo into that engine compartment. Have you looked under the hood? Dont try working on that silly thing yourself! As for AWD...its possible. The car (I wont use SUV when talking about a PT) is already high enough as a FWD, though. Im sure they would have to raise it to fit any sort of AWD. And do the people buying these vehicles REALLY care about AWD? or are they looking for something "cool". But hey, this is just my view.
