Default Dead spot or resistance in the STi power steering rack

I have noticed a little extra steering resistance when passing through the center. I notice it most when backing out of the driveway and turning the wheel back to straight.

But, now I notice it on the autocross course, during slaloms. Another driver drove the car at the track and commented on it, too.

Is this a characteristic of the car or do I need to have something fixed?
