Default USDM WRX rear into 99RS AWD/RWD.. QUE?

Ok heres the deal i converted my RS to RWD for a little fun (Please save all the "That was stupid" comments, and if you have any questions about the conversion search "fat tits rwd")

Well i had a 01 vlsd rear in and it basically blew... its retarded now

My RS final drive is 4.11 the 02 WRX is 3.90... Will it work if install the WRX rear while in RWD..? How will it affect things?

I also hear that i "cant" use it when im in AWD, but what will happen?

"Just get a RS diff and shut up" - Well the wrx diff is im hoping free, and im in school full time and broke

Would it be much of a PITA just to swap the lsd and use the RS gearing?

I REALLY need a metal lsd (kaaz, ats, rsr) but that cost more money than i have now
(If any vendors or anyone have some rally diffs or something sitting around and would like some booze, hookers, and their name on the side of my car during drift events. PM ME! )

Thanks!!

Well because there is not front diff, I would assume that any rear gear ration would be fine. I'm not positive, but in theory I would think it'd be ok. However, the rear gears on a WRX are 3.545 (NOT 3.90). I would assume your acceleration would suffer greatly from this change.

Well your front diff will be running at a 4.111 ratio, and your rear will be running at a 3.545 ratio. Your center diff is a 1:1 ratio. You do the math! Basically your rear wheels will want to spin slower than the front wheels. This will cause your center diff to bind up and basically destroy itself. Not good. However, If you got also got a WRX 5-speed tranny, everything would be fine. The WRX box has a 3.90 front ratio and a 1.1:1 center ratio.

That'd be the way to do it properly. And probably your best bet. Yes you're on a budget, but it's a free LSD. Bring your diff to a shop and have them fit the new LSD to the existing diff. I suggest to have it professionally done. There are things like backlash and crap that you have to measure and get right for the installation to be proper.

That's all I can think of for now.

Nic is correct, as long as your not running the front diff your fine.

If you try and run the 3:54 R160 out of the WRX with the 4:11 front diff you'll melt the center diff in a matter of minutes.
