The 2000/2001 Boxster S is a much better vehicle than the original Boxster. Much more power...although much more expensive. A friend of mine just paid about $61k for his. It's darn beautiful though...even with the center exhaust.

Question

Anyone of you guys ever driven a boxter at all?
Doesn't sound like it. It is sweet, fast, awesome brakes, nice handling, beautiful interior, and the RS is junk in comparison.
I'd take one in a heartbeat and the looks are just, well Porsche.
'nuff said!

The Boxter is one well balance machine. I've heard nothing but praises from those who've driven it.....since I've never driven one myself.

??? Well, just think of how "junky" the Impreza would be if you spent the extra $30,000 to equal the cost of the Porsche and applied it to the RS... Hmmm... junk!

Helloooo!
Anybody out there?
Both in stock form, the RS is junk in comparison. Price was not the issue here.
And who in a sane mind would put 30k into the RS?

Might just be me, but isn't spending $50,000 on an RS a little rediculous? I love this car, but $30,000 in mods????
I'll take the Boxster!

Well, obviously, I know the Boxster is a superior car in stock form... I was just defending the RS since you called it junk

Thumbs up

My dad has a 2000 Boxter S, and let me just say....daaaaamm!!! The thing handles like a go-kart; like it's on rails! Verry nice! And the growl when you're at 7K rpms is just heart-stopping (not to mention the mad acceleration)...

Just my $.02.

As my silly username implies,
i have a S2000, which will run
rings around the standard boxster.

I drove a Boxster, and it was OK, but
nothing wonderfull. Kind of noisy for
a $50k car. My S2000 cost $32k, so I
expect it to be noisy.

I don't have the leather dash, or 6
speaker stereo that some boxsters have,
but my car will beat the hell out of a
regular boxster, and actually more than
keep up with the boxster S (as proven by
Road & track comparo test).

But it's still a H****!
And you have to stay on the big cam to go fast all the time. And thats no fun.
But then I haven't driven the S2000 yet, so I might be wrong there.

no fun to stay on the big cam all the time? umm... hehe, im sorry but the S2000 blows away the boxster in terms of driving "feel" and fun factor, even though the boxster is easier to drive, ease of driving never made anything fun. hehe, and so what if its a honda? may i remind you that you drive a SUBARU? hello? isnt subaru that wagons-only company that designs cars for and by lesbians in the upper 50's? hehe

we are comparing a honda to a Porsche? People because two cars perform the same deosn't mean they are comparable ...the S2000 is a low end Porsche ...a "poor mans porshce" if you would ... you buy a Boxster for the name before it not for the performance ...oh and a Boxster S will kill a S2000

I have always liked Porsches...and I love the way the Boxster looks.

However...there are SO MANY OF THEM! I mean everywhere around here. I've said it before but a big reason why I got the RS (1st AWD, 2nd $$$) was that it is not that common. I had a Honda Accord before and we all know how common that car is! (even thought is was an '89...try finding new tailight plastic for one of those!) Anyway...that Boxster is simply everywhere...and that would bug me too much. I'd spend the cash on something else....Like the S2000 (as long as it isn't that silver/grey color....which 99% of them appear to be!) and a new home theater system.

Faraz -

Before you post, you should have some knowledge about the issue first. The S2000 beat both the Boxster S and the M roadster in the combined Performance measurements (acceleration/ braking/ handing) on the same day by the same drivers. See article link below for the S2000's quicker lap time. In pure acceleration, the Boxster S was .1 faster in the .

http://www.roadandtrack.com/RoadAndT..._cm_00,00.html

Like I said the first time, the Boxster is an ok car, but not worth $50k, especially considering it's performance is not any better than a Type R integra. Different strokes for different folks. I don't think there is too much prestigious about owning a boxster though.

You probably don't get it, a Honda-even faster blahblah- will never be on par with a Porsche!
A honda will never have what a Porsche does and thats -Class-.
I'm sick of people with affordable performance cars trying to measure up to true supercars. And if the S2000 beats a Boxter, its still not on the same level of a Boxter.
A car is a whole system, every detail adds to it. And supercars are such because of the superior quality and engineering.
And a 30k sportscar has the budget spent in the obvious areas like engine, chassis to get impressive numbers. The rest of the car doesn't measure up to its performance. In a Porsche the whole car is on a very high level. Thats why its more expensive than the S2000.

WRC666 - BOXSTER. At least get the spelling correct since it is all about class.

Hey I didn't say that I have class, I drive a subcompact with only 4 cylinders and only 2 doors....
And not to get into Subaru's image....
Guess I'm just jealous that I can't have a Boxster(spelling?) or S2000...

Did someone call that little Porsche that I smoked with a stock SS a supercar? I realize that a supercar is not all about straight line acceleration, but that certainly is a big part of it. The Boxster couldn't be a supercar if its life depended on it. It's just the poor man's Porsche, and it looks retarded as hell from the rear with its butthole exhaust. Good brakes, good handling, half decent engine(that uses as much oil as it does gas), but a supercar, it is not. An Esprit or Diablo will tear that little peanut to shreds and pick its teeth with the little thing's wipers.

hey look at that, another S2000 owner!! Good choice my man. I drove the Boxster and M Roadster when I was convertable shopping. here was my take: The base Boxster was too slow...very laggy, not a very free revving engine, and IMHO, ho-hum styling (though in '97 when it came out, I thought differently). so, I drove the "S"...much nice car. While the base and "S" are well balanced, the "S" takes it to anotehr level..it actually feels like a sports car, whereas the base model feels horrendously underpoered (even with its new for 2000 bigger motor). I started talking price, and as someone above stated, it ws a tad over $60k out the door with teh options I wanted. For "just" a mere $10k more (hey, if you can afford $60k, you can afford $70k), I cold have had a '00 C2 911 Cab....teh "S" suddenly didn't look like the car for me at all. I then loked at the Honda. Those that know me know I am feverently anti-Honda. But eh S2000 is not a typical Honda. So, I drove it. Now, I forget who said that wringing the Honda out may not be fun, but I can tell you, you are 100% dead wrong...it's a total blast. If you have ever owned a crotch-rocket (ie YZFR1, GSXR750, etc.) you know what I mean...revving it IS fun, and the car is damn quick. The chassis was heaps stiffer than the Boxster, but suspension as still compliant (not soft though), and zero rattles. While looks are in the eyes of the beholder, I get a stare and compliment every single time I take the S2000 out. By cmparison, I pass on average 6-8 Boxsters per day just on my way to and from work! Sure, the Hondas carpet is not as nice (like I car, it's not even anywhere to be found on a bike!), and the stereo sucked (hich, I, uhh, solved by "upgrading" hint hint, but the fit and finish IMHO were great, the car felt solid, and was easy to drive quickly (I am used to very powerful RWD cars, so to me, the S200 is easy).

Now, unlike those on the S2000 boards, I do not think it is the be-all and end-all of roadsters, but it is a great car, and even at the premium price I paid ($4000 over sticker, plus options) it was a steal. Hell, I wrecked my first one (rollover while sverving to miss 2 girls who ran into the road..hit a ditch and rolled), and STILL bought another...I was so impressed with the fact that, well, that I lived (the accident was baaadddd), that it was the only choice for me.
