Default 04 sti short block with 02 heads?

i found a good deal on the short block and i was wondering what would be involved in the swap. would i have to swap over to a 04 ecu or could i use my 02 with my utec? will my transmission bolt up? i now the injectors are different. so could i put my 02 sti pinks in and use my fuel rails or do i need all new rails?

1. You can use your MY02 ECU + UTec (Assuming you are using WRX cams)
2. Your tranny bolts on - There's no reason why not.
3. Unless you are getting the intake manifold with it's injectors, you just use your pink injectors with your stock MY02 fuel rails.

Yes you can do it, look for the I speed thread on the sti block, for the results.

Let me see if i can make things a little clearrer for you.. All you are using is the sti block.. You will get the block and start swapping all your goodies over from the 02 wrx motor to the new block. So you would retain the injectors from the wrx motor.. I would say you should try and get your hands on a set of jdm heads if you have the cash.. If you do get the JDM heads you will have the option of using AVCS with the new set up if you get a JDM ecu and other needed parts.. If you want to keep it simple just use all the accessories off the wrx motor and skip the JDM heads.. If you are getting the block from a dealer the usually give you the option for the gasket for 200 or so more i would say get it since it has every gasket you will need for the whole motor.. But everything will work 02 tranny( the tranny might not last long with all that low end tq),sti injectors, wrx heads, wrx intake manifold, etc..

OR you can get the JDM heads + JUN cams, still use your WRX ECU.

BTW - JDM STi injectors fit WRX. They are top-feed . USDM STi will NOT fit. They are side-feed injectors.

ok this is what i wanted to hear. I am a TXS stg 4 now.with a vf 30. so i will just swap all my goodies over. hell yeah boys!! has anyone done this swap yet?

on a side note. I know the WRX heads flow decent for the lightly modded 2.0 but in the long run with the 2.5 am i going to have to port and get the jun cams? or maybe a cobb head kit.

There are a handful of cars out there right now with the STi 2.5/WRX heads set -up. Needless to say but we were the first

I am currently running one of these hybrids in my own '02 WRX.
Mods are as follows:
2.5 sti block (stock)
Wrx heads (stock)
565's
Walboro
NGK 7's
Spearco TMIC (with samco IC hoses)
20 G Turbo
I-Speed ECUtek (running 16psi only)
Helix up pipe
3" turbo back exhaust with high flow cat

My car dynoed (dynojet) 280whp by 6k and 276 ft lbs by 3.5k.

Observations:
STOCK WRX heads work fine.
Power starts to drops off after 6.5k to 7k.
Obviously I can add more boost with larger injectors.
My 47k mile tranny will probably not last much longer.

Hope that helps,

Chris
