Subaru Stars 2.2 throttle body?

i have a 95 2.2L. i was wondering if a throttle body off a 2.5 would fit my motor or if any one knows of another that will fit my car. also would i benifit from a different intake manifold off say a 2.5 or sti?

thanks

it would seem your question is not worthy of "expert" time, so i will have to fill in.

First of all, why?
you got turbo? if no forced induction then it's a stupidest idea ever with that said: as far as i know you cant use STI, anything over 98 will have different fuel injectors, and as far as I know T-body them selves are different.

I have a 95, 98 and 2000 imprezas, all have different T-bodys. Similar shape, but egr, idle control and other things positions have changed.

any way, i know you wont get it so i'll stop here

I'm not sure if your 2.2 has the IAC valve in the manifold like the older ones. If so....you can't swap TB's because teh 2.5 motors have the IAC in the TB section.

Either way, I see no real benefit. If you want a larger diameter....just get the TB bored out.

Slapnuts4ever : maybe i should have better explained myself. the perpose of a swap out, is to get a bigger bore. and infact many NA cars swap out all the time for a bigger throttle body for a number of preformance reasons. but i'll stop here, you probably wont get it

Legacy777 : I had the idea to bore it out but this is a daily driver so i cant afford the down time to have it machined, id rather un-bolt one and bolt on another.

thanks,
allan

I dont think any of the 2.5 throttle bodies will bolt up from what i remember. As said, this is because of IAC. THe SOHC 2.5s have IAC in the throttle body. It is a 2nd port above the main bore. It mates up to a seperate port on the 2.5 manifold.

I do not know if a 2.5 manifold can be used, it may bolt up but then there is the injectors and all that stuff. Even if you did, swap manifolds, and throttle bodies, the wiring from your 2.2 will not plug into the new throttle body.

And then there is the question- is it worth all this? From what i remember the backside of the throttle body that mates up to the manifold has the same diameter bore as the 1.8 and 2.2 throttle body. The only difference is that the opening in front was alittle wider making more of a funnel or venturi. so there is really not much difference.

Then keep in mind its a pretty stock 2.2L your dealing with, a larger throttle body really wont make too much more power unless you have a lot of other stuff done.

Maybe locate a 2nd 2.2 throttle body cheap, get that bored out and then swap it when it is complete. Less down time and probably better results than a 2.5 throttle body. Just find one used and clean it up.

I dont think the intake manifold will work. The trottle body might, but not the intake manifold. Ive been looking into intake manifold designs due to my little head swaping project, and from what I can tell the EJ22 and EJ18 share head simularities, but the EJ20/EJ25 are actually different in that area as they have different injector angles and bolt patterns.

However if you want to work on EJ22 n/a power stuff, look into the threads about the rocker arm differences in the EJ22's over the years... Aparently certain rocker arms in certain EJ22's are better than others.

Boring out the throttle body will make little or no difference. The biggest flow restriction on these engines is the manifold itself. I don't know of any tuners that still offer overbored TB's for the Imprezas. A CAI, and full engine back exhaust are about as far as one can go without cracking their engine open...

veilside_scooby: ... granted i've missread your post, but i kinda assumed you were talking about swapping intake manifold cause well, as stated above T-body alone is stupid. Yes, you can bore it out, whoopty doo, an extra 2 hp (dynoed by cobb, and canceled for that very reason) gain is irrelevant unless you are going turbo.

at any rate, if you are in fact going to swap somethng do so, and prove me wrong.

awd : im not trying to prove anyone one wrong that was the purpose of the thread. to gain knowledge. my question has been answered, everyone says its not worth doing, enough says. but on many imports and some domestics it IS worth doing. that is why i asked.

Everyone else : thanks you you help!
