...question for you. I am fairly new to the area...
I got pulled over and got a ticket yesterday. Not a very big fine, but is 4 pts on the liscence. The cop asked my driving record. It had been over 3 yrs since I had a ticket. He said to me, "I am going to give you a citation, but do not pay the fine.... go in on the court date and plea bargin for less points off your liscence." I had never heard that before... I know that back in St. Louis where I am from you can get a traffic lawyer to reduce the ticket to a non moving violation (which is no pts). I haven't seen any ads for anything like that here. Anyone in the Springs have anyone that they would recomend? Anyone tried the plea bargin thing??? Let me know. Thanks in advance.....

As a former resident of Colorado Springs I have intimate knowledge of this proccess. Don't pay the fine, go to the courthouse on your assigned date and they will sit down with you and tell you what they can do based on your driving record. It is handled like an assembly line and is a fast process. You don't talk to a judge just a court official and they usually drop the fine way down and reduce or remove the points (depending on the charge). I got a 96 in a 55 (highway 115) down to no points and $50 in 1998. I also got a few other speeding tickets reduced to less than $50 but kept points on a few of them. I also had an out of state license (being military) that Colorado never pass data to so my insurance was never raised ( thank god ).

I think it's pretty much state policy. I've had two tickets since I've moved out here (7 years ago), and both times I've gotten a plea bargain. First ticket went completely off my record. Second time time they reduced the points and the fine, and it went down to a non-moving violation.
As long as you have a good driving record plea bargain works ![]() |

They will usually bargain down to 1-2 points for "defective vehicle" or "faulty headlight, without the need to hire a lawyer.
Rarely, if you are an ass to the cop, they will make you do a driver safety class for a 65 in a 50 ![]() |

The cop should have checked the option on the citation to pay the fine by mail and have it reduced 2 points (to "defective equipment charge") without you having to show up in court.
