Question 2001 RS options

I'm probally going to be buying a 2001 RS this coming spring and as I was looking through the brochure I noticed that there are performance parts offered by subaru straight from the factory? Is it worth it to purchase any of these, for example, the short throw shifter or the muffler and pipe kit, or should i buy them aftermarket. What about the steel strut brace or the performance gauge pack. Please help me out here guys, i know you know a lot more than I do when it comes to mods.

You can find better deals and better products elsewhere, but the SPT stuff is pretty good. It's especially good if you want the mods and have them included in your loan

Subaru ought to have "normal" dash trim as an option...or they should at least offer the carbon fibre dash trim as an option. I took a peek inside a 2001 RS last weekend. I had heard the carbon fibre trim (which I've heard is not real carbon fibre at all) looks fake and out of place inside the Impreza, but nothing could of prepared me for how hideous I thought it looked.

Thank heavens I bought a MY2000 RS! I still don't have a single regret.

Well i don't know but the Carbon dosn't look too bad on my01. I mean i didn't pay for it so I see it as a freebe. I mean you would of gotten the same thing from Subaru if you ordered it as a option. Also the cd player came "standard" and the car mats with the RS logo came standard.. And depends on your dealer but I got the carbon shifter out of him. =0)
Oh 1 more thing...I think most people can tell which carbon is fake and what isn't

That's my point, exactly. I'm not too big on the carbon fibre look. I'm not sure why. Consequently, I'm glad that the carbon fibre dash trim was an option on the MY2000 RS. If I had to purchase a MY2001 RS right now, the dash trim would instantly repel me.

Of course, it is an Impreza, so I doubt I would let something like measly dash trim deter me from buying my favorite car.

It does look kind of cheesy, but honestly, I don't even notice it anymore. I'm more concerned with what's on the road in front of me!

I like my carbon fiber trim.
Maybe I'm the only one who does.
Don't forget, MY01's are changing soon. That's why I got mine.

Any way, I think the Subaru parts are a little over-priced. Find yourself a Subaru parts advisor or consultant who you can trust and have him order some good aftermarket stuff for you.

I tried to have my MY01 RS come from the factory with some of those Performance Subaru parts and I found that they are not factory installed parts...they are dealer installed parts. That's when I found that by going to the aftermarket scene...I could get some better stuff for less money.

Check out www.subaru.com and build your own RS. You will see a * next to those items saying that they are dealer installed options.

Although, I may still purchase the Subaru performance exhaust and mid pipe.

Regards,
Stacey
