Default up pipe, down pipe, and cat back question

ok, im looking for an exhaust on my 04 and im stumped. i want somthing loud but not too loud. I drove my freinds wrx, he has a 3 inch down pipe, and a tanabe(medalion or w.e its called) cat back and that thing is super loud, and the silencer sounds like a civic. Its a good loud very deep sounds almost like a muscel car with a BOV but it honestly sounds like it should be on the space shuttle or somin. I want somthing that you can hear and then roars when i gun it. so if any one has any ideas or soundclips id appreciate it thanx!

also lets visit the wonderful world of uppipes, ive been told the dealer doesnt notice them??? I plan on taking the down pipe off and just leaving the cat back on if i ever really need to cover somthing with warrenty and the uppipe isnt the easiest thing the world to take off! ive herd of guys turning in ther wrx's that wer on lease with the down pipes on????? is this true

Thanx again guys ,matt

There are many threads about this, but I'd look at the Greddy EVO cat-back. It's one of the most quiet exhausts. I had one for a while and it was nice and quiet at idle and only loud at full throttle. And by loud, it's no where near as loud as my new Blitz NurSpec.

This is a good thread and should answer some of your questions.

You response is looking for an opinion which is a VERY hard thing. From my personal experience you might be interested in a Scoobysport or magnaflow mufflered exhaust. These I would consider to be middle of the road loud. Beware of any further advice of "sounds great". That is too vague a term. Also, keep in mind that even "quiet" exhausts get pretty stinking loud above 4000 RPM.

I don't think a dealer will notice an uppipe. Once installed you can't see them. The downpipe is an easy swap out item, so you can do that if you are concerned.

Do you want Cats or no cats.

If no cats, get the Helix DP for $300 and the Borla Hush for $350. $650 for a Turbo Back and you are set. The Hush is only quiet if you keep the third cat. It is resonated so it shouldn't drone too much, though.
