Post old friend won a car

Larry was my best friend in high school. I thought you might want to read this story. He probably did the right thing settling for the Accent.

If my friend was driving an Accent he would be an "old" friend too. J/K Cool story, I wish that I had that much patience

I moved up here in '96 and haven't seen him since '95. I talked to him last year and he had moved to Ohio and back to SC.

What does an Access really sell for? $8000? So they basically lost 20 workdays of work for a $8000 car... Sounds like about $350 a day gross [they still have to pay taxes on the car and at full retail value of $11,000, which lets just say is around $3000 in taxes. So they won an $8000 car, minus $3000 in taxes, puts them up $5000.

$5000 / 20 work days = $250 a day. That's about ~$31.25 gross an hour. It definitely doesn't sound like a winning situation in my opinion. I'd rather go out and work my butt off for 4 weeks and put that money towards a car then end up with some POS.

The contest where I know a guy who won a Viper was another story until I found out that he only won a LEASE on a Viper for a year, and he only gets 10k miles on it! And he had to stay put for around 3 weeks. What a waste...

That looks good in my book. I'm grossing $22/hr right now working my butt off. 4 years of college wasted. I could have just gone around the country entering radio contests instead

Yeah but you're getting $22/hour and you get to sleep, eat, party, see your g/f or b/f or wife, see friends, watch movies, and drive you car. At $31.25/hour, that's not including the OVERTIME he had to spend sitting in on the contest. If you take into account the overtime lost over 26 days, you're talking about 624 hours total, 160 hours of which are straight time, 288 hours of double time, and 176 hours of time and a half, which comes to a total of 1000 hours exactly of pay time. 1000 hours divided into the pay-out amount of $5000 is $5 per hour gross.

Of course no one is going to be able to work 624 hours over 26 days, but at least you're finding yourself somewhere between a "perfect" work record of 624 hours @ $5 per hour plus OT, or a "basic" work record of 160 hours @ $31.25. Somewhere in between would be an average of 276 hours @ $18.13 an hour, for the 4 weeks he was there. That means about 4 hours a day each Saturday, 13 hours a day on the weekdays, and a few extra thrown in for good measure on a few Sundays.

That's a lot of time lost

Of course, if he's young and unemployed, I guess it would be worth it. For a working man, taking the time off means saving 1 month of income to overcome the lost work and still pay rent or mortgages and other bills. How did he manage it?

Heh, I have a friend who is a bartender in a beach club down in Fla, and she makes a good $800 a night cash. Of course, she shows her twin headlights off in a good way by the things she wear, but she can probably afford a Porsche Tell your friend to work out, get some big pecs, and sell drinkies to the babies.
