Question G's -- talking about forces here!

Does anybody know how many G's a 22B or WRX can pull around a bend?

Someone told me last night that a Viper pulled 1.2 G's going around a bend one time, and I have trouble believing that.

I told him that Subies have beat up on them like any other car at the Auto-X's, but he wouldn't hear of it.

While I don't know the answer to your question, I must ask what kind of Viper he was speaking of. If he's talking about a stock Viper, he's obviously been smoking something... If he's talking about a Hennessey (sp?) modded Viper, then maybe. A real ORECA Viper GTS-R, definitely(and probably a fair bit more).

I just found a website online that claims the GTS can produce 1.01 G's.

Why do you guys find it so hard to believe that a Viper(any Viper) can pull over 1 G?

It's got more contact patch than all four cars in my family combined.

I believe that the manufacturer claims 1.01 for the GTS. The Hennessey Venom bests that by a hair at 1.05. 1.2 is more in the F1/Indy car league...

Edekker - you're saying that you pulled

13mm bar 18mm Bar
LT 0.93 1.08
LT 0.92 1.02
RT 0.96 1.05
RT 0.97 1.04

more than 1.0 G's with the RE92's and an 18mm bar?

Those are instantanious measurements. The car wouldn't be able to hold them all the way around a skidpad.

SilverSuby,

Yup! That's with the stock RE92. Remember - that's instantaneous g-force we're talking here, which are peak, unaveraged numbers. Skid-pad numbers are generated using a running 5-second (or thereabouts) averaging window.

G forces also have a lot to do with the surface.

WHOA SKTOBE

1.2 is not F1 range my subaru driving friend!

more like 4G's is what an F1 car pulls regularly. Cars in the GT class and the GTS class regularly pull more than 1 G on the race track. The viper is long known for pulling a tad over 1 G on road tests, its got tenacious grip and absolutely huge tires in that thing. Couple that with the very low center of gravity and you have a very good turning car.

Here is the thing that you must remember. Those skidpad numbers are measured on a 200 ft diameter circle track. These tracks favor rear wheel drive cars because of how easy it is to rotate and control the back end. A viper with a skilled pilot would do very well on any autocross. But lets face it, how many of those grey haired guys can really drive that car well. Not many. Dont say that a viper is not a fantastic handling car, because wins at the 24 hours of LeMans is nothing to laugh at.

Whoever said that the Oreca racing team car would do considerably more than 1G, Kudos to you brother. Dont say american Iron is dead because the Vette and the Viper are simply dominant in that form of road racing.

that should sum it up... take care folks
