Exclamation WRX: 60's Mustang Styling ques? (pics)

Notice the "lip" along the car on the rear...

...that extends all the way forward...

...and even the simular lights...

...I noticed this, since my family has a 66 mustang, and when I saw this "lip" on the WRX I realized that its very simular to the mustang (Along with the round lights).

I dont know of any other cars that have this...

Thoughts?

Notice the fender flairs (mod)...

...the hood scoop (mod), gaping vent (mod) and round headlights.

Interesting, no?

I think the new WRX looks like a Neon on steroids, looks like the mustang? No way.

They definatly dont look "the same", but I'm just pointing out some particular styling cues... That side "lip" w/ round headlights. Maybe its where the Idea came from, no?

Thumbs up

Ours is a '66 v6 Auto, light yellow w/ vinyl top... My grandmother was the original owner, and my mother bought it from her. Its the original engine, original hubcaps, original licensceplate (and licenceplate frame ), and pretty much everything original... 115k original miles. Its museum quality too, but we are having trouble maintaining it since we know jack about auto maintenence and we havent been taking it to any club type functions anymore, its been pretty much just sitting in the garage getting driven every 2 months or so... We were offered $10k for it a couple years ago during a Mustang Club meeting... Its an airloom, but it would probably be better taken care of in a collectors hands, if you know what I mean...

Oh yeah, I totally see it! It's almost identicle. And look how it has four tires! And they're all black! And they both have two windshield wipers on the front window. And don't even get me started on how they both have license plates attached to their bumpers in the same place. Man those bastards at Subaru, how dare they copy an American icon.
BTW Kostamojen, your mustang doesn't have a V6 if it's original. You probably just made a typo, but it either has a straight six or a V8. I just uploaded some pictures of my mustang.

The rest are at http://albums.photopoint.com/j/Album...603&a=10887964

Yes, I see the cues, but the '64 1/2 - 66 'Stang has influenced a lot of cars. My first car was a '66 hardtop - 289 2-bbl, AT, whitewalls and the expensive wire wheel covers (like yours, Travis). Black on black, and I lived in SC and GA in those days - peeled a lot of skin on the steering wheel and seats. Sold it in '84 for grad school money (and 'cause I wasn't good at auto electricals then) and bought a well-maintained, but still POS, '79 Accord. Regret it to this day but wouldn't buy another. Anyhoo, new Impreza reminds me more of the Neon and non-US Toyota Corolla in the front. Front wheel bulges on WRX a little like Forester's; rear is just pretty generic to me. Thanks for indulging my nostalgia trip.

Resemblance = /\___/\ Shaped front and back... a defining charicteristic in each car that travels all the way through from front to back. I call it a "lip".

Kostamojen - the 6-cylinder in all 64 1/2 - 66 Mustangs was a 200 ci inline 6. This also appeared in the car the Mustang was based on, the (in)famous Falcon.

Travis - I just noticed you've got the GT rear valence panel in primer on that 'Stang. That's no K-code GT, now, is it?

No, I'm a cheater. When I put on the dual exhaust I got the GT rear valence so the pipes could pass through. I think the cars look goofy with the dual pipes just hanging below the normal valence. The driving lights on the front are some cheap Pep Boys specials that a friend gave me. They really aren't even very good. They're attatched to the honey comb grill and they shake so much at speed that thay are of little use. The car is in need of body work. I spent most of my money making it run good. Lots of motor upgrades, a shift kit for the tranny, front lowering springs, and Addco sway bars front and rear. We even lowered the front upper control arms 1" like Shelby did for camber compensation.
Unfortunately I never had the money to do a disk brake conversion (four wheel drums ), or put the posi back in the rear.
The rally pack on the steering column is original though. And I've got my window sticker too. The front seat belts cost $11.00 or something like that (yes, they were optional, as well as the back-up lights ($22.50)).
The car is for sale BTW.

Please stop the madness.

I gotta go with Mel on this one. Sacrilige. Total sacrilige.

The Falcon should be well known to anybody who knows anything about rally. Those things were the Subaru Imprezas of yesteryear as far as rally is concerned.

ImprezdRS,

Oh my god, you're right, new WRX rear end looks like Toyota Echo rear end -- how embarrassing! Echo even has an ugly, useless little flat-board wing, too. Good reason to get the WRX wagon.

Might want to watch out for the Kia Rio wagon then

Its not sacralidge. Its only 1 thing really along with the round headlights, and the original mustang is not some POS car like the Rio (Rio really isnt that bad either, for the price), it was a car the spawned the age of Muscle cars, and taking a couple cues from it is in no way a bad thing!

But anyway, has anyone else found another car with that specific styling cue yet?

Okay, I knew a little about Falcons as rally cars, but the one may dad had wouldn't have cut it. It was a '62 4-door, black w/gray interior, 3 onna tree and a 144 ci I6 (optional was 170 I6). Vacuum wipers and a hole in the passenger floor for my bee-- er, soda bottle caps to drop. My cousin had a '64 Falcon Sprint w/260ci V8 and 4-speed that would fly but overheated constantly. Travis, your '65 would make a nice driver, more so than a resto candidate. My Mustang days are over, though - sticking to my Forester as (among other things) a parts hauler for my Studebaker.

Don't y'all think the Echo looks like a Tercel copied onto Silly Putty and stretched vertically?

Okay, enough, I'll stop - this is a Soob board.
