Have a Nice Day? When being chased by a Viper...

...you should:

A) Return the Challenge
B) Smile, wave, and gawk at their car
or C) Get the **** out of the way due to the insuperiority of your rustbucket!

Well, I decided to go with plan C, since my '92 Achieva v6 could not match his V10 power
Funny thing, was this was the first time I have EVER been challanged by anyone while driving around. I think my driving style provoked him, cause he was coming out of some office parking lot as I flew by at about 60 in a 45 zone, and he decided to catch me . Luckly, I was turning left at the next light, and I didnt get the chance to test my Oldsmobile might against his pitiful Dodge power! Hehe...

Anyway, I saw a new Civic yesterday...
BLAH! Looks like someone squished the front, stretched the roofline, and molded it with plastic then stuck a Mirage tail end on the back... Let the masses keep this one thank you very much!

Yuck.. Mangusta? I want to like that Qvale thing, but dammit.. the front end is just so ugly!
A blue Viper GTS, however, is a good looking machine. True, it's about as refined as a V10 powered tractor.. but wouldn't ya like to drive one once?

I've always hated Vipers...I think it's because of my disdain for Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth/Jeep stuff...ick...

Sometimes at work day dream of owning the new Porsche 911 Turbo and meeting a Viper at a stop light...that would be fun to toast him!

And can say, that they definately arent a daily-driver.

Yes... they have torque... and they can stop... thats about it... lol

****e view.. cant see the front..cant see out the back.. and I never bothered looking out the sides.. lol

Not to comfy (didnt like the pedals)...

Drinks fuel...

Suspension sucked!

But boy.. they are big... and look great!

I loved it.. should have bought one... lol

But I have seen Subies over take them on track days..

Yeah.. I wasn't too fond of the pedals either. But man, do they look bad ass.

But Jay, why would you even look at a Viper when you could have a TVR?

That'd be the best! You couldn't slap the grin off of my face for a week if I'd blown by a Viper on the track.

(Hmmm... somebody with a Viper wanna' rallycross?)

-Red

PS: I've driven one (not a GTS), very briefly in a parking lot. That's the kind of torque I want in my Scooby.

So you're saying a Viper doesnt handle good? Doesnt the Viper pull almost 1G???? That's a whole hell of alot better than a damn Subaru.

Howdy,

There is a lot more to handling than pulling G's

try doing AutoX or a shicane (sp) in one.. transferring the weight from side to side...

Yes.. on a sweeping bend you could probably get a G.. not suprising considering the tires (massive).. but I just didnt think it was balanced.. or agile.

I recently watched a show on Speedvision comparing the Viper, Z06 Corvette, and the Mustang Cobra R. The cars were driven by the same driver on a race track. I don't know who the driver was, but he was good enough to get a faster lap time with the Z06 traction/stablization functions turned off. All the cars were pretty close, but the Viper had to much torque to be pushed as hard as the other cars and spun out in turns a couple of times. I like the Viper a lot, but I would kill myself in the High Horse RWD death machine.

As for Richard saying Vipers Suck and someone asking why?, well I would think so also if I had a 22B!

A couple weekends ago I was tooling around in my 911 when a Viper started getting all agitated two lanes over, revving and lurching.

I started laughing because there was no way I was going to go after him. He has 4 times my displacement and 3 times the HP. Without much fuss he was gone from my view within three blocks. Now in case I see him again I have to build a 3.0L RSR motor and hope he misses a shift. Or maybe a JATO pack. LOL

Thumbs up

I just watched the US vs Europe camparo. The US kicked ass, only contest we didn't win was the 0-100-0 test (there might have been another, but I didn't see). Then again, the Viper and Shelby Series 1 were the 2 fastest cars, and yes, they did test a new 911 Turbo.

I love the Viper, american muscle at it's finest. It's not about subtlety, it's about getting in the car and kickind @$$. Oh, and from what I hear, Carrol Shelby helped design it.

I think Jay_uk has summed it up perfectly..

Besides they are as "common as muck" around these neck of the woods..

Cacophony.. I was talking about the original De Thomaso Mangusta not the Qvale wannabe..

Thumbs down

yeah the viper looks cool and has a ton of hp and torque but bottom line is - its a chrysler product (i.e. looks nice but unreliable). I remember reading an article (can't remember which mag) that described the viper as "the most useless form of transportation". Its like the batmobile - kinda funky looking, fast acceleration, but its big, sucks gas like no tomorrow, a bear to drive (except in a straight line), impractical, and I bet its a real pain in the a** to parallel park. The car was designed and built for for people that want a cool car to show off but I think that there are much better cars to pick from than a dodge.

The original DeTomaso Mangusta? But wasn't that thing an evil handling shed??
